Foundation or bronzer stains can linger, becoming a common problem in everyday wardrobes and for shop owners whose new clothes often get marked when tried on – this can be a costly nightmare

Makeup lovers and fake tan enthusiasts will know all too well the frustration of finding stubborn stains on clothes, especially on lighter fabrics.

A quick brush against a top or dress can leave visible marks, and getting them out isn’t always straightforward. Even after multiple washes, foundation or bronzer stains can linger, becoming a common problem in everyday wardrobes and for shop owners whose new clothes often get marked when tried on. This can be a costly nightmare, but followers of cleaning guru Mrs Hinch have discovered a cheap, easy fix for these pesky stains – and it costs just 65p.

This handy tip was shared in the popular Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group, where a shop owner posted about her struggle to remove makeup marks left by customers on new clothes. Unable to wash the items due to the tags still being attached, she sought advice from the group’s members, reports Leicestershire Live.

“Ladies and Gents, can you help please?” she wrote. “We have a clothes shop, and customers keep leaving makeup stains on collars and necklines. I can’t wash the items as they’re new with labels, so I wondered if there’s something dry I can use to remove foundation stains. It’s costing me a fortune having to reduce the items… Any advice is welcome!”

The post quickly attracted a flurry of responses, with many Mrs Hinch fans eager to share their solutions. One budget-friendly answer popped up repeatedly: baby wipes. According to several users, baby wipes are an effective way to lift makeup stains from clothes, saving both time and money.

One person commented: “I used baby wipes to get makeup off my daughter’s wedding dress.” Another suggested: “Baby wipes are great for this – I always keep a pack handy.” A third added: “I bought a top recently that had faint makeup stains on it, but the shop assistant used baby wipes to get them out. They work brilliantly, so I always have some in the house now.”

The simplicity of the hack won praise from others in the group too. Tesco’s own baby wipes, which cost as little as 65p , were a popular choice. Some users also recommended antibacterial kitchen wipes as an alternative, with one fan saying: “I use Tesco’s kitchen wipes for this sort of thing, and they work like a charm.”

While baby wipes seemed to be the most popular solution, other suggestions emerged as well. Several users recommended using micellar water, a staple in many people’s skincare routines. One member explained: “Micellar water is brilliant for makeup stains. Just make sure to dab rather than rub it in.” Others agreed, with one person adding: “Garnier makeup remover works wonders too.”
