Ange Postecoglou has confirmed Will Lankshear could leave Tottenham on loan in January, with Hollywood-owned Wrexham previously linked with the young striker

Will Lankshear has been tipped for big things by Tottenham teammate James Maddison and even compared to Harry Kane.

However, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has now confirmed the young striker could be allowed to leave on loan in January to gain more minutes. Ryan Reynolds’ team Wrexham were one of several clubs linked with a loan move for the 19-year-old during the summer transfer window, along with Championship sides Sunderland and Hull City.

Nonetheless, it was later revealed that Lankshear would be kept in the first-team squad after making a strong impression for Spurs since joining from Sheffield United for £2million in August 2022. Last season, he scored 23 goals for their under-21s team in Premier League 2, including a brace in the play-off final victory over Sunderland.

The teenager’s playing style and physique have led to comparisons with Spurs legend Harry Kane. Speaking previously about the Bayern Munich star’s influence on his career, he told Football.London: “Harry Kane is unbelievable, Haaland as well. I really admire them two. They’re similar to me in ways, but obviously, if I could have a quarter of their career I’d be very happy.”

Lankshear’s teammate James Maddison has also praised his prospects. In November, the former Leicester midfielder was heard hyping him up in training footage shared on the club’s social media channels.

He said: “Willy Lanks [Will Lankshear], that’s a man that is scoring some goals in training. There’s a man who’s scoring today, let’s go big boy.” Lankshear made his Spurs first team debut during their Europa League victory over Ferencvaros in October.

He later scored his first goal for them away at Galatasaray the following month before being sent off in the same match for receiving two yellow cards. Lankshear’s game time has been limited since then, and Postecoglou admitted on Tuesday that he could be sent out on loan before the end of the month.

Commenting on his side’s plans during the January transfer window, the Australian said: “Some of the young players like Alfie Dorrington went out on loan and we will probably do similar for young Will (Lankshear) because he hasn’t really played a lot. Aside from that, we are looking at incomings if anything happens.”

It leaves the door wide open for ambitious Wrexham to revisit a move for the striker as they battle for promotion to the Championship. Phil Parkinson’s side are currently third in League One, just below Birmingham City and Wycombe Wanderers in the table.

The Hollywood-backed outfit have been linked with a number of strikers in January, with talisman Paul Mullin struggling for goals this season. The 30-year-old has scored just twice in the league so far this campaign after undergoing back surgery during the summer.

It’s been confirmed Parkinson will be well-backed by Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney this month. The Welsh team’s plans were discussed by club director and former EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey at an event in New York in November.

As reported by Wales Online, he said: “Rob and Ryan have always supported Phil’s ambition. We will be active in the transfer market during January, because we’re in a position of strength. If we go any further forward from where we are now, we get promoted, and that is the objective.”

Parkinson himself said he would make additions if players of the right quality became available, and Lankshear would certainly appear to fit that bill. The manager told the BBC earlier this month: “We’re looking and obviously like any other transfer window the players we have identified – they’re hard to get. They’re going to have to improve what we’ve got, which won’t be easy.”
