It turns out that the lottery numbers you’re putting on could be seriously impacting your chances of winning, so a lottery expert has shared what you should do instead to maximise your chances

Everybody dreams of winning the lottery – even if they don’t bother to enter. Imagine the holidays you could go on, the designer handbags you could own, the car you could drive, and the house you could live in if you won big.

But there are some numbers you should not be choosing if you’re determined to try and win because they’re the least chosen in history. TikToker @makeitshinemoney also shared her top tips when it comes to potentially winning the jackpot and the types of numbers you should be choosing.

She recommended that you may need to change your strategy, saying: “Avoid numbers that are related to dates like your birthday and anniversary.

“These numbers fall between 1 and 31, so even though the probability of the number being selected is the same if you play numbers above 31, it may increase the chance of you not having to share the prize with other players.”

A study conducted by BoyleSports also revealed that if you’re looking for a windfall, you should never choose the following numbers:

This is because, since October 2015, they’ve been the least frequently-picked lottery numbers.

@makeitshinemoney also recommended playing “less popular” lottery games, despite the fact that the “prize amount is probably lower” – but you’ll have increased odds of winning.

Her third tip was to “study the most popular drawn numbers”, which BoyleSports’ study says are 37, 52, 58, 39, 42, and 27.

She then recommended you “go and buy a lottery ticket” now you’ve heard her advice. In the comments, someone wrote: “Probabilities are skewed towards a certain distribution. It is not a normal distribution. There are skews.”

Another recommended “investing money” instead of gambling it on playing the lottery.
