A Spanish town that enjoys year round sunshine has a number of beautiful beaches surrounded by bars and restaurants where you can quench your thirst with a super cheap pint

Whether you’re looking to relax on the sand, go for a hike or let off some steam in one of the world’s best water parks, a town in Tenerife has something for everyone.

Tenerife is one of the most popular year-round destinations for sun seekers thanks to its sub tropical climate and mild winters. The summers can be searingly hot but for those who want a gentler heat, a perfect time to visit is during the cooler months from November to April.

There are lots of resorts on the Spanish island, some livelier than others. Playa de las Americas in the south is renowned for its raucous nightlife but less than two miles away is the beautiful town of Adeje. Here visitors can choose whether to enjoy peace and quiet or dip a toe in the party vibe just along the coast.

Beach lovers are well catered for, with a number of destinations to relax on the fine grain sand that is lapped by the crystal clear waters of the ocean. Playa del Duque sits in a small bay and is generally considered to be the main beach. Playa Fanabe is the largest with just over half a mile of child-friendly shoreline – there are also several playgrounds behind the beach. Here the more energetic holidaymaker can enjoy a number of watersports including jet skis and parasailing. Playa La Pinta near the marina also offers water sports and has calmer waters which are great for the little ones.

Rick Cosgrove, a compere at many of the island’s bars, told the Sun: “I love both Puerto Colon and Fanabe beaches. These two coves are next to each other in Costa Adeje in the south of the island, and are ideal for beach lovers.

“Puerto Colon has a lot more going on, as it’s next to the marina and all sea excursions in the south tend to depart from here, so there is a plethora of bars, cafes and restaurants to serve your needs. If you find Puerto Colon too busy, then neighbouring mile-long Fanabe beach is a little more relaxed with quieter beach clubs along the edge.”

Kitty de Graaf, a travel consultant and blogger on the island, said: “Tenerife South is perfect for a beach holiday with more hours of sunshine and stunning beaches like Playa de las Vistas in Los Cristianos, and Playa del Duque in Costa Adeje.”

There is a large selection of restaurants and cafés behind the beaches which serve an array of food from international to traditional tapas and fast food. It’s still possible to bag a beer bargain here too, despite prices rising across the world since the pandemic. Depending on the bar and your beer of choice, prices range from around €1.5 to €4.

Spain’s highest peak, the 12,200-foot Mount Teide towers behind the resort and Barranco del Infierno, Hell’s Gorge is great for anyone who wants to burn off some of those extra holiday calories with a hike. Book in advance to put yourself to the test with the three hour challenge that has a 200 meter high waterfall waiting as a reward at the end.

Thrill seekers should definitely head to what has been hailed as the world’s best waterpark – the Thai themed Siam Park. The water kingdom has rapids, free fall slides and even an area to relax for all the family, surrounded by lush vegetation. Whale and dolphin excursion are available at the marina for those hoping to spot one of the beautiful creatures in their natural environment and spend a day out at sea.

Recent visitors to Adeje have shared their experiences on Tripadvisor. One wrote: “It’s got a great marina/ port area, beautifully kept beaches, if you’re into your retail therapy there’s lots of shops but the big draw for me are the amazing amount of pubs, bars, cafe’s and restaurants, we had a scream over in Costa Adeje, loved it, been many times over the years.”

Another enjoyed the wildlife and scenery, they said: “We took two excursions one was dolphin and whale watching with Royal Delfin based at Puerto Colon. This was an amazing experience, very relaxed and we saw both dolphins and pilot whales. The other trip we took was to Mount Teide and Masca and Icod los Vinos. Another brilliant day, we had a very knowledgeable tour guide.”

A third was impressed by the low prices: “Cheap and cheerful. Probably best describes Costa Adeje. good points :cheap beer (always important) £1.50 a pint in a lot of places , nice beach, quite a few bars had live music on in the afternoon. Which was unexpected. Lots of restaurants . And great all round vibe about the place.”
