Travellers are snapping up this ‘amazing’ multi-purpose balm on flights to use on everything from dry skin to insect bites – and we’ve found where you can buy it on the ground, too

When flying, it’s certainly tempting to treat yourself to a beauty bargain when the duty free trolley comes around, with airlines now selling loads of big-name brands. We’ve found out what British Airways’ top skincare product is, and where you can buy it without taking to the skies, too – and it’s probably not what you’re expecting.

The number one bestselling skincare product on board British Airways flights is Korean beauty brand Wonderbalm’s hero product – a rich, nourishing balm that has loads of different uses, from soothing dry skin to removing make-up – with the brand reporting a 20% month on month uplift on sales, and it even outselling some liquor brands.

As well as being available to buy on a number of airlines, we’ve also found it on Amazon, priced at £29 – much more convenient if you haven’t got a holiday coming up.

With a simple ingredients list consisting of shea butter and natural oils, this thick, nourishing balm melts into the skin when warmed up between fingers, and can be used in lots of different ways including, according to Wonderbalm, as a ‘skin moisturiser, hair mask, lip balm, after shave balm, hand cream and cuticle moisturiser, make-up primer, make-up remover, eye cream, tattoo aftercare, hydrating skin mask, and for burns, cuts and scrapes’.

This makes it both an ideal travel product when luggage space might be limited, and also perfect for this time of year, when skin can be drier than usual.

One happy customer called it the “perfect multiuse product” on the Wonderbalm website, writing: “I can’t stop recommending this product to friends and family! Have swapped out my cleansing balm, lip balms and hand cream for this one product! It really works wonders as an overnight lip mask to avoid any cracking from the cold weather.”

Another praised its ability to soothe two common holiday complaints: insect bites and sunburn: “I used Wonderbalm after I was bitten several times by a mosquito. Not only did it take the redness down of each bite, but it really soothed my skin and prevented me from itching. My husband was also suffering from a sunburn patch on his arm, so I suggested he used this to help soothe and moisturise the area.”

A third person called it the ‘best balm ever’, writing: “I wonder what I did before I got this balm. I got a pot for my granddaughter too and she loves it as a lip balm and night moisturiser. It is so versatile and smells divine. Well worth the money, I shall order again but a pot will last a long fry see while. I’m really pleased.”

One Amazon shopper, however, found it to be ineffective as a face cream due to its firm texture, leaving the following review: “Good quality balm, but it is difficult to use as the texture is stiff. Could do with being more creamy.” (Remember, though, that Wonderbalm advises warming the product between your fingers first before applying it the skin.)

Some other similar multi-tasking dry skin products we love and regularly re-buy include the cult classic Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant, currently reduced from £31 to £23.25 – which comes in a tube and has a softer consistency – and CeraVe Advanced Repair Ointment for Very Dry and Chapped Skin, now £8.80.
