Netflix fans are raving about a new true-story drama that’s been dubbed as ‘one of the best series of 2025.’
Launched on Thursday (February 27), the four-parter stars big names like Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker, Aimee Lou Wood of Sex Education fame, and Bridgerton’s Claudia Jessie.
Toxic Town dives into the heart-wrenching Corby toxic waste disaster, following three mums as they take on their local council over mismanaged waste linked to severe birth defects in children.
Netflix describes the series: “Toxic Town is the story of the people at the heart of the Corby poisonings. Focusing on a group of mothers who took on a David and Goliath battle for justice, the series traces the years of their fight as a terrible truth comes to the surface.”
It is penned by Jack Thorne, known for his work on Joy, another true-story hit on the streaming platform. Critics have already given it a stellar 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes from eight reviews.
With this ‘gripping’ show out, plenty are sharing their thoughts on X, formerly Twitter, with one saying: “If you haven’t watched it yet TOXIC TOWN is a must watch. It’s a true story about mothers affected by toxins causing defects in children birthed around the time. Emotional, gripping and heartfelt.”
One fan gushed:”#ToxicTown watch it. Completely shocking that this wasn’t a national disgrace… I live 1/2 hour drive away from Corby and knew nothing of this. Also, the acting is off the scale, especially the tour de force that is #JodieWhittaker incredible performance!”
Another viewer lauded the show’s merits, commenting: “TOXIC TOWN was exceptional. It’s not a run-of-the-mill biopic drama just to get you to cry over mothers’ misfortune, but it’s also an engaging investigative drama with its emotional ups and downs. Jodie Whittaker was a firecracker with a lean mean feisty attitude,” reports Surrey Live.
Further praise came from someone who believes the series will stand out as one of the year’s best: “Just finished #ToxicTown. In my opinion, it will certainly be one of the best series of 2025!”
On Reddit, another added their two cents in a brief but positive note: “Watched it in one sitting, thought it was great.”
Toxic Town is now on Netflix.
