Madonna’s brother, Christopher Ciccone, died on Sunday aged 53, just days after the death of the siblings’ stepmother, Joan Clare Ciccone, who died after a battle with cancer

Madonna’s family tragedy struck once again on Sunday as it was confirmed her brother, Christopher Ciccone, passed away at just 53 years old.

This news follows shortly after the siblings mourned the loss of their stepmother, Joan Clare Ciccone, who lost her fight with cancer. The iconic pop star, 66, also bid farewell to her older brother, Anthony Ciccone, in February last year.

Madonna and Christopher shared a bond that saw many ups and downs throughout the years before they made peace, albeit while maintaining some personal space. During their childhood in Michigan, the siblings formed a close-knit duo, perfecting dance routines together. Christopher even moved to New York to support his sister’s burning ambition to hit the big time.

As Madonna’s stardom skyrocketed, Christopher became an integral part of her inner circle, taking on roles as her personal assistant, stylist, and tour director. He left his creative mark as the art director for her iconic 1990 Blonde Ambition world tour, reports the Mirror US.

However, trouble brewed in 2001 when Christopher discovered that he was replaced as the tour director for Madonna’s Drowned World Tour. Concurrently, Madonna’s marriage to Guy Ritchie created further distance between them, with Christopher later recounting it as the “death knell for my relationship with her.”

Reflecting on these tumultuous times, Christopher told The Guardian: “From the moment I found out that I wasn’t doing Drowned World, to her and Guy’s wedding, everything became a bit of a blur, a dark, fairly negative period of time for me.”

The final straw came when Madonna pointed the finger at Christopher for theft, leading to the catastrophic downfall of their sibling bond. By 2008, Christopher had put pen to paper, dishing out family secrets in his tell-all book, My Life with My Sister Madonna.

He didn’t hold back in his memoir, branding Madonna as selfish and overpowering, even accusing her of being a harsh dictator. Amongst other revelations, he asserted she exposed his sexuality on national television and didn’t provide financial support to their elderly grandmother.

Despite past tensions, it seems the Ciccone siblings had found a way to mend fences. Speaking to the Evening Standard in 2012, Christopher disclosed: “As far as I’m concerned, we’re good.”

Ensuring fans knew they were on steady ground, he elaborated: “We are in contact with each other, although I haven’t seen her for a long time,” and confirmed, “We’re back to being a brother and sister. I don’t work for her, and it’s better this way.”

Madonna was in London recently with her toy boy boyfriend Akeem Morris, 28. The pair took in a Premier League match as they watched Chelsea beat Brighton & Hove Albion 4 -2 at Stamford Bridge.
