UK fans are all saying the same thing about ITV’s coverage of the Oscars, hosted by Jonathan Ross alongside Jason Isaacs, Mariella Frostrup and Elle Osili-Wood

With the Oscars in full swing, UK fans watching are all saying the same thing about Jonathan Ross’ coverage of the prestigious awards ceremony.

The British talk show star is hosting ITV’s coverage of the 97th Academy Awards taking place in the US, but it seems like fans aren’t enjoying the UK showing – with some labelling it “abysmal” viewing. Ross was joined by actor Jason Isaacs, journalist and broadcaster Mariella Frostrup and film expert and presenter Elle Osili-Wood, and people have been taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts, with one begging ITV to replace him with adverts instead.

One disgruntled viewer penned: “The fact that we have to put up with the abysmal Jonathan Ross talking absolute s*** after every award,” while another said: “Had to mute the Jonathan Ross ITV coverage. Genuinely diabolical.” While one person wrote: “How do I sign a petition to get rid of this Jonathan Ross segment during the Oscars?” Things already got off to a bad start for Jonathan and his panel, as viewers were quick to slam the host and his co-stars as they discussed The Substance – the body horror that is up for Best Picture.

Mariella Frostrup clearly didn’t think much of the critically acclaimed film. “Substance is a very strange choice. If you like gore you will love it. If you don’t, not much to take home,” she said. The fim has given Demi Moore her first Oscar nomination at the age of 62.

“Why do I have to watch Jonathan Ross waffle after every single award just fire the awards off one after the other and everyone can be out of there in a sharp 20 mins,” another X user fumed and another added: “Jonathan Ross and the extras are making such weird comments #Oscars.” A third chimed: “I need to find a way to take a tactical nap whenever that awful panel with Jonathan Ross is on. Muted!”

As the 2025 Oscars ceremony got under way earlier this evening, the event showed a video of places in California and the Hollywood Hills sign in what appeared to be a tribute to the Los Angeles wildfires. It ended saying: “We love LA.” On stage, Wicked star Ariana Grande launched into The Wizard Of Oz song Somewhere Over The Rainbow in a red dress and ruby slippers.
