Phlur’s latest fragrance is sexy, seductive and ideal for a romantic night out

If you’re anything like me, the world of perfume feels increasingly overwhelming with a wealth of brands vying for attention. But one name I keep returning to is Phlur, the niche fragrance label that’s been shaking up the industry.

Known for its playful, sensual scents, Phlur has earned a reputation for creating modern, expressive, and utterly irresistible fragrances. The latest addition to its collection is Golden Rule (£99) — a ‘bold and confident scent’ blending mandarin, pink pepper, vanilla, coconut milk and orange flowers.

On first spritz, it’s sweet and inviting, but as it settles, the fragrance deepens into something sultry and more seductive. It feels like the perfect date-night perfume, especially with Valentine’s Day just around the corner.

While Golden Rule delivers on sweetness and sophistication and got me compliments as soon as I wore it, the scent faded after a couple of hours. For that reason, I’d advise snagging the 9.5ml travel-size version (£29) if you love to keep a fragrance on hand for quick top-ups throughout the day.

On to the presentation — for many of us, the design of a perfume bottle is almost as important as the scent itself. It’s what we proudly display on our dressing tables, after all.

Phlur’s Golden Rule features a gold, glossy, and glam aesthetic, which perfectly mirrors the fragrance’s boldness. That said, it’s not a design that will appeal to everyone.

Personally, I find it a little too flashy. It’ll stay in my collection for its enticing scent but won’t sit front and centre in my perfume display.

Still, for lovers of sweet and sultry fragrances — or those looking to make a statement this Valentine’s Day — Golden Rule is worth a try. Whether you opt for the full-size bottle or the travel version, it’s bound to turn heads.

If you’re unsure about Golden Rule, I also rate Phlur’s Mango Mood, a playful scent packed with fruity notes of mango (obviously), blackcurrant and pink pepper. A blast of wild orris flowers and black lotus gives it a sexier twist, making it ideal for hot summer nights (when they eventually return).

For more floral-based perfumes, Floral Street is an excellent choice. The aptly named brand specialises in scents inspired by blooms, including its popular Wonderland Peony fragrance, housed in a pretty pink bottle. Vanilla Orchid is a great alternative if you prefer a slightly deeper aroma.

Otherwise, if Golden Rule tempts you but you’re put off by the £99 price tag, Britney Spear’s Fantasy is a similar scent with sweet, sensual notes. It’s £22 for a 100ml bottle at Superdrug, or you can opt for the Fantasy/Midnight fragrance duo for £36 at Boots.
