Jamie Oliver recommends adding one major ingredient to your potatoes to make their crispy outer shell crunchy, while leaving the inside deliciously fluffy
Air fryers are a game changer, and that’s a statement everyone agrees with. Not only have they made cooking much easier, but they’ve also surprised us with how well the food turns out in such little time.
Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has been guiding us through the screens, offering cooking tips and tricks to create the best recipes. While he’s known for his expertise in the kitchen, he has also embraced the air fryer. Jamie has now shared his method for making the perfect air fryer roasted potatoes, which he describes as “super crispy on the outside” but “gorgeously fluffy on the inside.”
The best part of this recipe is that it can easily be made gluten-free and vegan as well. You won’t need anything unusual, and most likely, all the ingredients are already in your pantry:
- Six potatoes
- A bulb of garlic
- A dash of vegetable oil
- One or two tablespoons of mustard
- Runny honey
The “super simple” recipe for the best air fryer roast potatoes is based on one secret ingredient: runny honey. Jamie shared the recipe on his website, adapting it from Poppy Cooks: The Actually Delicious Air Fryer Cookbook.
Jamie explained: “With a little bit of chuffing up, and a little bit of squashing along the way. This recipe is foolproof, super crispy on the outside yet gorgeously fluffy on the inside, and your friends are going to love it.”
Step-by-step guide to making air-fried roasted potatoes:
- Peel the potatoes and cut them into 2cm cubes, then place them in a mixing bowl. Then, drizzle them with vegetable oil and sprinkle with salt.
- Take the bulb of garlic, slice off the top, drizzle with vegetable oil and sprinkle with salt, then wrap it in kitchen foil.
- Place the garlic in the foil and the potatoes in the air fryer at 180°C for approximately 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, remove the garlic from the air fryer, increase the temperature to 190°C, and roast the potatoes for an additional 10 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, mix two tablespoons of honey, two tablespoons of mustard, and a pinch of salt. Unwrap the garlic and mix everything together. Once the roasted potatoes are ready, toss them in the honey-mustard mixture and serve.
To elevate the dish, Jamie also suggests: “Try tossing the crispy potato cubes with a handful of chopped parsley, a sprig of finely chopped rosemary, a handful of finely grated Parmesan and a finely grated garlic clove.”
