Comedian Joe Lycett has reportedly paused his late night comedy show for a rare reason despite bosses being keen for another series

Joe Lycett’s popular Channel 4 share has been shelved for a rare reason.

It’s claimed the comedian’s hit series, Late Night Lycett, has been paused by bosses at the broadcaster. The live show, which first aired in 2023, was broadcast on Friday nights from Birmingham. He has been joined by a number of famous faces over its two-season run so far, including the likes of Danny Dyer, Greg James, Ross Kemp and Daisy May Cooper.

In the show, the funnyman would take part in funny skits with his guests. However, fans will be disappointed to hear it won’t be making an immediate return.

According to The Sun, bosses are keen for the show to continue, but have allowed Joe to take an extended paternity leave following the birth of his son in October. The show normally airs from April which would have meant it would be in pre-production now.

However, an insider told the publication: “Late Night Lycett is a hugely popular format and one that Channel 4 want to keep on air. Joe’s witty one-liners as well as the show’s comedy and feel-good vibe means it’s not shy of attracting big names out on a Friday evening like Alesha Dixon and Elizabeth Hurley.

“Channel 4 are keen for another series but at the moment Joe has taken extended time off to be with his newborn son and family.”

They said the bosses are respecting Joe’s decision and are willing to hold talks again when he decides the time is right.

Joe surprised his followers last year by revealing he had become a dad. Sharing a post on social media at the time, he wrote: “An appreciation post from me for the extraordinary @bham_womens hospital. My first encounter with them was years ago when they looked after a pal of mine through surgery, and then most recently when they masterfully welcomed a little boy into the world, who happens to be my son.

“The care and compassion his mum and he received was exceptional; from the antenatal classes, incredible midwives, consultants, doctors, nurses and the ongoing care in the community. We also loved their baked potatoes. Birmingham is so lucky to have them and I will be forever grateful for everything they’ve done.”

He later thanked his fans too in an email newsletter. He penned: “I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who has been so lovely about my news (you may have seen on instagram or in the press that I have just welcomed a son)…. I’m finding fatherhood to be a total delight,” he wrote.
