Liam Payne was clean according to friends and they claim they have evidence that this was the case before he tragically fell to his death at an Argentinian hotel

Friends of Liam Payne have claimed they have proof that the One Direction singer was clean from substances just days before he fell to his death from a third floor hotel balcony in Argentina.

The 31-year-old singer was in Buenos Aires on holiday with the hopes of seeing his former bandmate Niall Horan perform on his tour. Friends close to the star believe he had to be clean as Liam was renewing his expired US visa while in Argentina, ahead of moving to Florida, for which he was asked to undergo tests.

Pals say that Liam had spoken to US embassy officials when he was looking to renew the visa and had been questioned by about his previous stints in rehab. As part of obtaining a new visa, Liam was asked to take a drug test before travelling.

Speaking to The Sun, a source close to the 1D start claimed: “The embassy said he needed to do a strict investigation including X-rays and a blood test to search for traces of drugs. He was completely clean the Thursday before he died. On the weekend at his friend’s ranch, he was completely sober.”

An insider said that Liam collected the results of his test on Tuesday the day before he died, and it showed that he was clean. Following the shock news of his death this week, reports had circulated that he was ‘acting erratically’ in the hotel – with staff calling 911 for help.

The transcript of a 911 call made by hotel staff, revealed the hotel manager told emergency services: “We have a guest who’s off his head on drugs and is destroying everything in his room. We need someone to come.”

Liam reportedly met a close friend called Roger the following day, with the source saying: “Roger is upset – at one point on Wednesday he was phoned by a hotel manager who said they had found Liam asleep on the floor of the elevator.”

The source added: “They moved him to the sofa in the hotel lobby but the manager said he couldn’t stay there, and that he needed to go to his room. In the emergency call, they said they were worried Liam’s life was in danger because he was in a room with a balcony. Why didn’t they just let him stay sleeping in the lobby if they were worried about this?”

Another source also claimed to The Mail on Sunday that Liam had undergone tests ahead of trying to secure a US visa. They claimed: “They ordered him to do medical tests, see a doctor, do bloodwork and X-rays and see a psychiatrist and that was all done the first week. Liam thought the trip would only last a few days but because of all the tests he ended up getting stuck there.”

Liam was reportedly set to have his visa stamped on Friday, two days after he fell to his death. He was asked by staff members to return to his hotel room but minutes later, the impact of his body was heard when he fell from the balcony into the internal courtyard of the hotel.

Police investigating the singer’s death are now probing a theory that he was high on a potent substance that can cause extreme highs and extreme lows to users and make them aggressive. Photos from inside Liam’s hotel room saw traces of white powder, tin foil and a smashed television screen. Officials have not commented or provided any official information to support or deny the unconfirmed claims.
