Liam Payne’s girlfriend told him: “me or the drugs” in the days before his death, reports this morning claim.
The One Direction star, 31, chose the drugs and so Kate “had no choice” but to leave Argentina, after which Liam fell from the balcony of his third floor hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The star died after suffering multiple traumas leading to an “internal and external haemorrhage”.
Now, reports say Kate, who had been on holiday with her partner in Argentina as he had to apply to renew his visa for America, was unhappy about the musician’s drug use. It was “causing a lot of drama” in their relationship, said to have started around two years ago.
A source told the New York Post: “His drug use was causing a lot of drama. So she gave him an ultimatum: her or the drugs. He chose the drugs, so she had no choice but to remove herself from the situation. She thought she was doing tough love.” Kate and Liam had originally planned to stay in the Latin American country for just five days – which later turned into two weeks, something she reportedly disagreed with.
Kate, an influencer, took to social media to explain to fans that she “hated” staying in one place for a long period of time and needed to return to their home in Florida. The source continued claiming that Kate has told friends she was a “hostage situation” as their holiday continued to extend. “It was becoming very unhealthy for everyone. She hoped he would follow her back to Miami,” the source added.
Two days after Liam’s heartbreaking death, Kate took to social media to share a moving tribute to her late partner. The social media influencer shared the love she had for her late boyfriend and admits she’s “at a loss”. Taking to Instagram, she said: “Thank you for all of the kind words and love that has been sent my way. I have been at a complete loss. Nothing about the past few days have felt real. I ask and pray that you’ll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private. Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam.”
In a statement released a week after Liam’s death, Kate revealed that Liam was planning to propose to her before the end of 2024. She said: “I don’t even know where to begin. My heart is shattered in ways I can’t put into words. I wish you could see the huge impact you’ve had on the world, even as it feels so dark right now. You brought so much happiness and positivity to everyone-millions of fans, your family, friends, and especially me. You are so incredibly loved.”
