Liverpool are set for a busy January transfer window, with plenty of focus on the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah who are all out of contract in the summer

Slot gives update on Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool future

Liverpool have enjoyed an outstanding season so far as Arne Slot’s side get ready for their first match of 2025 later today.

Liverpool are set to welcome rivals Manchester United to Anfield and will be hoping to continue their good form, having notched an incredible 14 goals in their last three Premier League victories.

The Reds currently sit top of the league and are also top of the revamped league phase of the Champions League, having won all six of their European games so far. However, they are set for a busy January transfer window with much attention on the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

The trio are all out of contract at the end of the season and it remains to be seen whether they will remain at Anfield. With all that in mind, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Liverpool transfer news.

Heitinga makes exit call

Arne Slot’s assistant manager John Heitinga has decided to remain at Liverpool, despite being linked with the West Brom job.

West Brom are searching for a new manager after Carlos Corberan left the Championship club to take charge of Valencia and Heitinga, who previously had a brief stint in charge of Ajax, had been mooted as a potential replacement.

However, Heitinga’s agent has confirmed the 41-year-old will not be leaving Anfield for pastures new. Rob Jansen said: “John will definitely stay at Liverpool this season.”

Pitaluga set for exit

22-year-old goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga could be set for a return to Fluminense, according to reports from Brazil.

Pitaluga joined Liverpool from Fluminense for a fee of around £2million back in 2020 and has spent time on loan at Macclesfield, St Patrick’s Athletic and Livingston. However, Fluminense are now in talks with Liverpool over re-signing Pitaluga.

It is claimed the Brazilian is keen on a return to his home country, having struggled for game time at Livingston so far this season. The report states that the move would be a free transfer, but Liverpool would have a sell-on clause.

Salah latest

Salah has poured more doubt on his Liverpool future after admitting he remains “far away from any progress”.

Salah said: “There is nothing, no progress there. We are far away from any progress so we just need to wait and see. I think the thing in my head is OK if this is your last six months or last year, what do you want to see in the future?

“Do you want to look back and say ‘oh I was concerned about the contract or stressed?’ or do you just want to say ‘Ok I had an unbelievable season’. So that is in my head now. If I feel a kind of distraction I just remind myself ‘OK you want to look back and say I had an unbelievable season’ so that’s what I want to do.”
