Liverpool have made an excellent start to the season under new boss Arne Slot and the Reds may look to strengthen their squad in the upcoming January transfer window
Liverpool will be back in action this Sunday following the international break, with Arne Slot’s side set to take on Southampton on St Mary’s.
The Reds will be looking to pick up where they left off before the break, with Liverpool unbeaten in their last 13 games across all competitions. Southampton, meanwhile, currently sit bottom of the Premier League after picking up just four points from 11 games.
Following their trip to Southampton, Liverpool have two absolutely huge games as they take on Real Madrid and Manchester City. With all that in mind, Mirror Football takes a look at some of the latest Liverpool news.
Inter eye Chiesa
According to Tuttosport, Inter Milan are eyeing a January swoop for Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa.
Chiesa joined Liverpool from Juventus this summer in a cut-price deal, but the 27-year-old has only made three appearances for the Reds across all competitions. And the report states that Chiesa could potentially return to Italy on loan in January, with Inter keen on signing him.
AC Milan and AS Roma have also been linked with Chiesa and it is claimed that Liverpool would be willing to cover a portion of the player’s wages if he does depart Anfield on loan in the new year.
Cherki interest
Liverpool have made a €20million (£17m) bid to sign Lyon star Rayan Cherki, according to a report from TuttoJuve.
Lyon have amassed almost £50m in debts and are facing relegation from Ligue 1 unless they can sort out their financial woes. As a result, Lyon may be forced to cash in on a number of their top players, including Cherki.
The report states that Liverpool and Chelsea have already lodged official bids for the winger, while Serie A giants Juventus have also been credited with an interest in the France Under-21 star.
Kokcu addresses transfer rumours
Benfica star Orkun Kokcu has branded Slot the “best coach in the world” amid rumours linking the midfielder with a move to Liverpool.
” Arne Slot is like a father,” Kokcu told TRT Spor. “He made me who I am. He is the best coach in the world. When my old coach (Slot) took over, I had a big breakthrough in his first season. We reached the final of the Conference League that year, but unfortunately we lost.
“Still, I think my performance that season was very good. I actually wanted to transfer in the summer; some of the big clubs in the top six in England were interested in me. We had serious talks about a transfer, but it didn’t happen at the last minute. The following season, Arne Slot made me captain of the team, and that responsibility increased my performance even more.”
