The holidaymaker make visited a resort in Turkey and was surprised how expensive it was and also how empty the resort was which he believed did not auger well for the destination

Concerns have been raised by a holidaymaker about prices in a sunshine holiday destination.

The man had visited Turkey on a break from the UK, but he was astonished by the prices. And he also raised concerns about the future of is holiday destination Marmaris in Turkey after extreme price rises at the resort. The town is said to have been unusually quiet and many tourists have taken to TikTok to report how empty it was. The Daily Record reports many people believed the downturn in visitors is because of the significant increase in prices this year.

Calling himself as @marmarislovers on TikTok, the man, who was involved in the tourism industry, expressed fears that “Marmaris will have no tourists in 2025” because of ‘prohibitive’ costs deterring travellers. He added: “This season has been so quiet, it’s sad to see. Also 2025 has 15% price increase again. Vodka and Coke already £15 alone. Can go Dubai for same price.”

His video has sparked surprise among viewers shocked by the soaring expenses. Some commenters shared their foresight of this issue from their own experiences in Marmaris. A third said: “It’s such a shame for Turkey. I’ve been going years, but won’t be going again.” A fourth commenter also shared: “Been going 16 years. Sadly last year for us – June was a fortune.” Some holidaymakers have declared their affection for Turkey, with several suggesting they found drinks deals to be quite the bargain on their trips. They argue against deterring travellers from visiting.

One woman declared that this trend has been ongoing for two decades and swore off returning to the area. However, there were a few who didn’t find the prices particularly excessive. In the comments section, one individual posted: “I’m here right now. The money I’ve spent here, I could have done a banging 10/10 Thailand holiday.” Another added: “Dalaman Airport. Burger King meal for two was 40 Euros.”

One social media user posted: “I’d love to know where this £15 vodka and Coke is. I’ve been paying like 250 lira (£5.60) for two.” A second supporter added: “I’m literally just back from Turkey. Going back again in October for 10 days, then booked again for next year in July. Then hopefully again in October next year too.” A third fan praised the destination: “Turkey is the best place. Been going for 25 years. Amazing, clean and people can’t do enough. Respect the country, and people.”
