Meghan Markle’s new cookery show With Love, Meghan has had its trailer posted on several different platforms for promotion, but one move by streaming platform Netflix has led to the Duchess being cruelly mocked

Meghan Markle teases new Netflix show in trailer

It is just days before Meghan Markle’s new Netflix show hits screens – and its trailer has been promoted all over social media.

But it seems one move by the streaming platform has seen the Duchess of Sussex end up being cruelly trolled ahead of With Love, Meghan being available to watch. That’s because the official trailer for the show has been posted to Netflix’s YouTube channel with people able to comment on the post.

And since it was posted three days ago, almost 35,000 different accounts have left comments, many leaving spiteful comments mocking Meghan. Some poke fun at Meghan’s comment about pursuing joy rather than perfection in her food preparation with some even saying they had only visited the page for the comments.

It makes a stark difference from Meghan’s own Instagram page, where so far on the new account, she has decided to disable comments on her post, allowing people to only like what she shares if they want to.

In the past few months, both Meghan and Prince Harry have railed against the use of social media, slamming tech companies for not doing enough to protect children online. In 2023, the Sussexes urged social media platforms to strengthen content-moderation policies, saying that some apps could damage the mental health of young people.

According to The Telegraph, Meghan is ‘excited’ about her Instagram return and hopes to use her account to “reconnect with communities” and share updates on her “impactful projects”. The publication reports that she is committed to promoting a “joyful and thoughtful approach to online content and is hoping to “lead by example” in demonstrating how social media can be a tool used for good.

The eight-part series With Love, Meghan, which launches on January 15, sees her inviting friends and famous guests to a California estate, where she shares cooking, gardening and hosting tips. It was announced a day after she returned to Instagram for the first time since 2020, where Meghan wrote: “I have been so excited to share this with you! I hope you love the show as much as I loved making it. “Wishing you all a fantastic new year! Thanks to our amazing crew and the team @netflix. Beyond grateful for the support – and fun!”

A promotional synopsis of the show says: “This inspiring series, produced by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, reimagines the genre of lifestyle programming, blending practical how-tos and candid conversation with friends, new and old. Meghan shares personal tips and tricks, embracing playfulness over perfection and highlights how easy it can be to create beauty, even in the unexpected. “She and her guests roll up their sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond, and invite you to do the same.”

Actresses Mindy Kaling and former Suits star Abigail Spencer, plus chefs Roy Choi and Alice Waters are among the guests who appear on the 33-minute shows. Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Productions helped to make the series and she also gets a credit as one of its executive producers.
