Michael McIntyre will perform in a one-off special to mark his quarter of a century in stand-up, with the BBC on hand to film the comic’s milestone moment

Comedy superstar Michael McIntyre is rolling out the red carpet to celebrate a whopping 25 years in the world of stand-up with a BBC comedy special.

The much-anticipated show, set to air on BBC One later in the year, features the comic legend taking the stage at London Palladium to dish out his witty takes on daily life.

Chatting up about his upcoming comedy milestone, he shared: “I’ve had an amazing 25 years since my first stand-up gig and the BBC have been such a huge part of that, giving me some wonderful stages on which to perform from Live at the Apollo, to Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and Michael McIntyre’s Big Show.”

He added with a touch of excitement: “Which is why it’s so befitting and such an honour to be celebrating this milestone with this stand-up special of all new jokes on BBC One and iPlayer.” While fans are left guessing the show’s exact date, they’re tipped off to snag free tickets for the recording via Applause Store.

Adding her thoughts on Michael’s incredible achievement, the BBC’s head honcho of entertainment, Kalpna Patel-Knight chimed in, saying, “Michael is a much loved Saturday night staple for so many and it is such a joy that he will be celebrating 25 years by bringing his new stand-up right here on the BBC.” She promised a rip-roaring evening full of giggles and guffaws, concluding, “It’s going to be a superb night with plenty of laughs.”

Michael’s journey to comedy stardom began humbly back in 2003, cracking jokes at spots like Banana Cabaret in Balham, before skyrocketing to fame and becoming the freshest face ever to host the Royal Variety Performance in 2010. He’s also been the face of popular TV shows like Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, The Wheel, and Comic Relief. The show will be produced by Hungry McBear.
