Some Netflix users are about to lose access to this popular service from next month.

There’s bad news ahead for some homes that enjoy a nightly Netflix binge with one popular TV brand confirming the streaming app is about to lose support on certain models. Sony says that 16 models will drop Netflix access from July meaning owners will either have to buy a dongle – such as a Fire TV Stick – or upgrade their television to something new.

The tellies affected are some 2014 BRAVIA models. Considering many of us keep our TVs for a number of years, this block could affect plenty of homes.

“Starting July 24, 2024, the Netflix app will no longer be supported on some 2014 BRAVIA televisions. You can continue to use the Netflix app until July 23, 2024. You can still enjoy Netflix on the Affected Models by using a supported streaming device.”

If your TV is on the list below you have a few weeks left before support ends.

It’s unclear why these devices are being blocked from Netflix access but their age may mean they can’t keep pace with new upgrades and features being launched by Netflix.

This isn’t the first time Sony screens have been hit by a block. Earlier this year it was also announced that Netflix was also being dropped from some 2011-2013 Sony TVs and Blu-ray Disc players.

At the time, it was confirmed that this was “due to technical limitations”.

If you have or are about to be blocked from Netflix, here are some devices that will offer ways to get those box sets back without needing to buy a new TV.

Here are all the compatible Netflix devices that work with Sony TVs.

• Amazon Fire TV/Stick

• Apple TV

• Chromecast

• Roku TV/Stick

• Sony PlayStation consoles

• Microsoft Xbox consoles
