NAB WOOD looks rock solid to win the racingtv.com/freetrial Handicap Hurdle (2.52) over two miles, four and a half furlongs at Ayr.
Nicky Richards’ eight-year-old gelding has had just five runs since his hurdling debut in May 2023, opening his account a year ago with a 12-length success in an extended 2m 6f novice hurdle at Kelso.
He followed up in his first handicap over the same course and distance a month later by three and a quarter lengths, but was then not seen again until 22 days ago at the Scottish course, when staying on well, five and a quarter lengths behind Idem at the line.
That run should be sufficient enough to blow off the cobwebs and a third career victory for Sean Quinlan’s mount looks on the cards.
On the all-weather at Kempton Park, ALSHIMALI can improve on his runner-up slot at Southwell 37 days ago over six furlongs, when he just failed to catch Havana Sky by a head.
The four-year-old son of Invincible Spirit has been given just an extra 1lb in the Free Bet With Unibet’s Betbuilder Rebound Handicap (Div 2) (4.45) over the same trip and he can be expected to score a debut gold medal on his fourth start for in-form trainer Tony Carroll.
