Manchester United were beaten 3-1 by Brighton on Sunday and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has poked fun at the result, which leaves the Red Devils 13th in the Premier League
Jamie Carragher has brutally mocked Manchester United after they lost 3-1 to Brighton at Old Trafford.
Goals from Yankuba Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter earned Brighton all three points, while United captain Bruno Fernandes also found the back of the net from the penalty spot.
The defeat leaves United 13th in the Premier League, just ten points above the relegation zone, and means new boss Ruben Amorim has won just three of his ten league games in charge so far.
And Carragher could not resist poking fun at United, with the former Liverpool defender retweeting a clip from a recent episode of the Overlap. In the clip, Gary Neville asks if United are “back” after drawing 2-2 with Liverpool and knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup on penalties.
The question prompted Carragher and Arsenal legend Ian Wright to immediately burst into laughter, with Carragher sarcastically responding: “Are Manchester United back part 342!”
United have now lost ten out of 22 league games this campaign, which is the earliest into a season that they have hit double figures for losses since 1989-90 and Amorim has admitted his side are perhaps the “worst team” in the club’s history.
“In [the last] ten games in Premier League, we won two,” Amorim said. “Imagine what this is for a fan of Manchester United. Imagine what this is for me. We are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach.
“I have full knowledge of that. We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United. I know you [media] want headlines but I am saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that. Here you go: your headlines.
“I knew that was going to be hard to put a completely new idea in the moment, but when you lose games and don’t win three games in a row it becomes really hard. Everybody here is underperforming and we have to accept that. It is unacceptable to lose so many games. The opponents are better than us in many details.
“We cannot be consistent and I’m not helping my players in the moment. You have to acknowledge we are in a very difficult situation, with all the bad records, as losing games at home, losing games in the Premier League. I know we can succeed but I am not naive. We need to survive this moment. But I am not going to change, no matter what.”
