As excitement grows ahead of the reunion tour, Oasis could be about to hit the top of the charts three decades on from missing out to some iconic Christmas songs

Oasis could be about to hit the top of the charts again and could score the group their ninth UK number-one single.

A vinyl re-issue of Whatever has been released to celebrate its 30th anniversary and is currently pacing to re-enter in first place. Current chart topper Kendrick Lamar has a big battle to stay out in front and data from the official charts shows the tune is on course to go to number one.

The non-album single was originally released in December 1994, and it peaked at Number 3. It was only kept at bay by two iconic festive songs – Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You and East 17’s mega hit Stay Another Day. Now, three decades on, Oasis are making up for lost time.

Noel Gallagher once told Alan Carr about what happened after they recorded it. He said: “I’d been out the night before to the pub. I woke up in a bus shelter in Maida Vale.” Excitement is growing ahead of the reunion tour – and could their rival be front row?

They are battling it out, but Kendrick is clearly a big Oasis fan. The star has been snapped in tops with slogans bearing the band’s logo and singles Supersonic and Live Forever at various points in time – both in the recording studio and during live performances.

A compilation of snaps of Lamar was shared by the Oasis Planet Instagram account, prompting surprise amongst music lovers worldwide. One commenter wrote: “Kendrick knows Oasis is a damn good band.” Another asked: “How can you NOT like Oasis? The 90s freaking Beatles.” And a third added: “Good for him.”

Liam Gallagher has told fans to “get off his case” as thousands of Oasis ticket orders were cancelled. Last year, the legendary rocker revealed that he and his brother Noel had put their differences aside and were reuniting as Oasis for the first time in almost two decades. The brothers, who last performed together in 2009 had been at logger heads ever since Noel dramatically quit the band in 2009.

But some fans suddenly had their tickets cancelled. One fan asked Liam on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Liam what do you think of the ticket situation? Thinking fans are bots and getting their money returned?” In response, the 52-year-old rocker said: “I don’t make the rules. We’re trying to do the right thing. It is what it is, I’m the singer. Get off my case.”
