Apple has just confirmed that one of its popular iPhones has now been placed on the ‘vintage’ list.

If you haven’t upgraded your iPhone in a while now could be a good time to consider making the switch to something new. Apple has just updated its list of devices that it now considers ‘vintage’ with the hugely popular iPhone X now being given this mature rating.

Although Apple still supports and repairs ‘vintage’ products, the company says gadgets are added to this category after being stopped from distribution and sale more than 5 and less than 7 years ago.

Owners shouldn’t have any issues right now but it does mean this phone is now one step closer to being added to the dreaded ‘obsolete’ list. This is when all support ends and service providers cannot order parts which means devices can no longer be fixed.

Anyone with any iPhone X should probably now consider making the switch to something new or they could be left with a call maker that no longer works.

For those not in the know, the iPhone X was the first Apple device to move away from the fingerprint scanner and add Face ID technology instead. This not only made unlocking the screen faster but also far more secure.

Launched back in 2017, it also got a fast A11 Bionic processor, an all-screen design which ditched the chunky chin and a striking stainless steel case.

These features made it one of Apple’s most popular iPhones with some reports suggesting it sold over 12 million units.

If news of the iPhone X now being classed as ‘vintage’ has got you thinking about switching things up then it’s a good idea to wait. Rumours suggest that the iPhone 16 will arrive in September and might be faster and also last longer thanks to a bigger battery. It’s also likely to have a better camera on the rear case, a brighter screen and be primed for Apple Intelligence.

This new technology looks set to make using the iPhone smarter with features such as help with writing emails and photo editing baked in.

Apple has also said the system will also be able to take information from across apps such as Maps, Mail and Messages to help with scheduling and planning and even make any emoji you want via a feature called Genmoji.

Speaking about the changes Apple’s software chief Craig Federighi said: “This is AI for the rest of us. Personal intelligence you can rely on at work, home and everywhere in between.

“This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter of personal intelligence. Intelligence built for your most personal products: your iPhone, iPad and Mac.

“Intelligence grounded in the things that make you, you and intelligence available to you system-wide so that you can get things down in a way that works for you. We are just getting started and I hope you are as excited as I am for the road ahead.”
