Many people are turning to Dunelm to help them cut back on energy bills as the price cap is set to rise next month

Using radiators to dry clothes, towels and bedding can lead to serious issues like damp and mould spreading through your home and becoming a health hazard. Not to mention, it can also be expensive to leave the heating on for a long time, which can lead to a hefty energy bill.

Using a tumble dryer can sometimes be just as costly. As homeowners try to spend as little as possible, a compromise that has taken off in recent years is investing in a heated airer.

Combining the heat of a radiator with the design of an airer, the device removes a lot of issues when drying clothes and bedding indoors when autumn and winter arrives. They’re also fairly cheap to run.

Dunelm offers a range of different sizes and options to suit your home. The cheapest currently is Dunelm’s £40 Heated Airer with Wings, which costs 6p per hour to run.

The gadget has received plenty of glowing reviews online as many say they’ve not needed to turn the heating on to dry their possessions. Ruth wrote: “I find the Airer very handy, especially when is dry enough to air, without needing to put on the heating.”

Another said: “We’ve needed a new airer for weeks and as this electric one was only about £10 more than a basic one we thought we’d give it a go. Very pleased with this airer as it has loads of useful space and is cheap to run – or just use it unpowered when the room is warm enough. The thicker rails compared to our old airer also help to reduce creases.”

Another wrote: “I bought this airer to see if this worked at drying my clothes, within the first hour light clothes were dry, only jumpers and cardigans took longer.” A third commented: “Excellent, cheap to run and dries clothes quickly, with the added bonus of heating the room whilst clothes are drying. Great value for money!”

A savvy shopper shared how they make sure they don’t waste a single penny with this appliance. They shared: “Absolute 100% recommend this heated airer and it’s so cheap to run. I have mine plugged into a smart plug so it goes off automatically.”

Some shoppers were not as pleased with their purchase, however. One claimed that if you “leave items on a little too long then you get burn marks on your fabrics.”

Another said: “I don’t know what all the hype is about these heated airers. It just seems to warm the clothes, dry just where they hit the rails.”

Dunelm isn’t the only place you can claim one of these devices. Argos is selling a similar winged-design Minky Heated Clothes Airer with Cover (to help retain heat and improve the drying performance) for £60.

One satisfied customer branded it as “a game changer” for their laundry routine, adding: “I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an effective and reliable drying solution”. Others claimed it “exceeded expectations” and left their rooms “toasty warm” as a bonus.

Another option would be Amazon, which stocks the Status Heated Clothes Airer for £37.95. It also had rave reviews, with buyers hailing it “perfect with the temperamental British weather”.
