Michaella McCollum, who was jailed for smuggling drugs from Peru, has flaunted her figure on a Spanish beach amid Celebrity SAS rumours
Michaella McCollum has been enjoying some fun in the sun as she played volleyball with her son on a Spanish beach.
The 30-year-old became infamous as one of the Peru Two when she was used a drug mule to smuggle cocaine out of the South American country, more than 10 years ago.
Now, Michaella is spending time in Benidorm with her son and was looking resplendent on the beach in a Brazil shirt after having breast enhancements at the end of last year.
Michaella, who was arrested at Jorge Chávez International Airport after 12 kg (26 lb) of cocaine was found in her luggage, propelling her to the front pages of newspapers across the globe, is now rumoured to be appearing on Celebrity SAS.
Spending a few years in a Peruvian prison may have prepared her well for the intense nature of the Channel 4 show but before that, she is enjoying relaxing under the Spanish sun.
The blonde-haired mum-of-two was full of smiles as she played on the golden sands as she looked a million miles away from the incident that she will always be linked to.
Since being released from prison in 2016, Michaella has admitted to being “stupid” in thinking that she could smuggle the drugs. Speaking on the Lorraine show, she said that it seemed like “easy money” to do the job as she thought it was “something quite normal”.
Michaella said: “At the time, I thought £5,000 was a lot of money. I now know £5,000 is not a lot of money. I thought it was easy money and I thought I was just doing something quite normal over there. Drugs were quite a normal thing. Back home in the UK it’s a taboo subject (but) it felt like a normal thing to do.”
At the time, Michaella was handcuffed, stripped naked and told she’d “never see daylight again” after her arrest. She described how she was forced to strip naked and woke to find 40 or 50 cockroaches crawling above her head and around her feet.
And the bathroom area of her prison was a pit with a small jug next to it. She was told: “If you wanted a shower you used the jug to pour water over yourself. When you used the hole as a toilet, you used the jug to wash it away.”
After she was also told to keep hydrated by drinking the water in the jug, she replied: “You’re kidding me? We can’t drink that! It’s filthy! And there’s hardly any of it.”
