Pride of Britain winner Florrie jokes on stage with presenters

An inspiring and incredibly brave eight-year-old girl, who is helping others despite battling cancer and waiting for a lung transplant, has been given a Child of Courage award at this year’s Pride of Britain.

Florence Ava Bark, or Florrie as she prefers to be called, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia from a young age and is currently on the waiting list for a lung transplant. We take a look at her phenomenal journey as she’s named this year’s Child of Courage award winner.

Everyone who meets Florrie is amazed by her breathtaking bravery – she may be only eight years old but not one to dwell on her own problems – she is spreading positivity by raising thousands of pounds for charity and inspiring others through her TikTok account BeMoreFab which has nearly 165K followers.

She certainly stole the show at the Pride of Britain awards held at the Grosvenor Hotel on Monday – which will be aired on TV tonight. Viewers will see her have everyone in hysterics as she shouts: “Get all of them! Round them up! Get Duncan Ballantyne! Before he hides,” as Strictly’s Pete Wicks and Towie star Sam Thompson go around the audience to get celebrities to donate to her charity.

And it worked – Be More Fab received more than £100,00 in charity donations on the night – £30,000 of which was donated by Dragon Duncan Ballantyne. So why was Florrie chosen as this year’s Child of Courage? Despite the curveballs life has thrown her, she has always remained positive and inspires others with her journey. Her TikTok page is full of useful videos highlighting the tireless work of the NHS, explaining to other young children what cancer is and features updates of her own leukaemia journey.

Meanwhile, her charity offers online and in-person education and music therapy for children with cancer, to ensure they don’t miss out while receiving vital treatment. And despite the fact she is waiting for a lung transplant, Florrie giggled and chatted at the awards night as Masked Singer host Joel Dommett and Strictly’s Obi Mabuse presented her with her Child of Courage award.

“You are one of the most inspirational people I’ve ever met,” they said. “You light up every room.” And they weren’t the only ones who were impressed by Florrie’s spark. Leading up to the awards night, former Little Mix star Perrie, 31, who surprised the youngster with the news that she had won a Daily Mirror Pride of Britain award called Florrie her new ‘best friend’.

“She is so cute and adorable,” Perrie said. “We are new best friends. For a little girl going through so much, her outlook on life is just so fun and fab. I just think she is great. I absolutely love her. She is so deserving of a Pride of Britain Award, the way she sees life she is just 10 out of 10.” Florrie, from Corby, Northamptonshire, told the Mirror afterwards: “This is so cool! It feels so strange, and I feel so happy and excited to win a Pride of Britain award.”

The Pride of Britain Awards will be on ITV tonight from 8pm and are held in partnership with TSB.
