Lawyer Marlene Orjeula apologised when the x-rated clip was played in court instead of audio recordings of conversations between lawyers who represented the former Colombian president

In a truly bizarre moment a prosecutor accidentally played an x-rated clip during a former Colombian president’s bribery trial.

Lawyer Marlene Orjuela played a clip showing a short person dancing to music as they held a bottle of alcohol. Just seconds later the segment was followed by an AI-enhanced video showing a nude woman. The gaffe sparked a wave of laughter from the judge overseeing the trial of disgraced ex-Colombian leader Alvaro Uribe. Ms Orjela said: “Your honour, my apologies.

“We wanted to show everything that [Diego Cadena] had sent but we didn’t foresee that this would happen.” Her colleague Luz Mireya Lopez added as the clip played during the session: “We have 57 files consisting of videos and audio recordings.”

Ms Orjuela tried to remain composed as the x-rated clip continued and while lawyers and the judge carried on laughing. She added: “My apologies, your honour but, well… it’s just that.”

She had intended to show a series of audio recordings of conversations that had happened between lawyers Juan Jose Salazar and Diego Cadena that was taken from Salazar’s mobile phone. They were both members of Uribe’s legal team and have been implicated in the trial.

Former president Uribe, 72, is on trial for bribery of witnesses in criminal proceedings as well as procedural fraud. He showed little emotion as the clip was shown in court on Friday. Uribe was Colombia’s President from 2002 to 2010 and can be jailed for up to 12 years should he be found guilty. The former leader denies all charges against him. The next hearing is due for Tuesday.

Ms Orjeula’s incident is far from the only awkward incident to happen in court. In February 2021, a Texas court session descended into farce when attorney Rod Ponton struggled to disable a cat filter that showed a kitten instead of his face. He infamously told the court: “I’m here live. I’m not a cat.”
