Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of a number of Liverpool stars out of contract in the summer and has drawn interest from Real Madrid as the possibility of a move arises if an agreement is not reached

Trent Alexander-Arnold is top of Real Madrid’s transfer shortlist.

The Liverpool star tops a four-man list as Los Blancos look to strengthen their hand and want to take advantage should the England international run-down his contract with the Reds. Alexander-Arnold is currently within the final months of his deal at Anfield as Arne Slot faces senior stars in Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk in the same predicaments.

From January the trio will be free to negotiate a transfer with clubs outside of the Premier League. Real Madrid will look to capitalise if afforded the opportunity and their target runs down his deal.

The Athletic report that Alexander-Arnold that heads a list including Tottenham star Pedro Porro, Bayer Leverkusen ace Jeremie Frimpong and Sevilla’s 21-year-old Spain youth international Juanlu. Les Merengues want to reinforce the position with Dani Carvajal seeing his contract expire in 2026, after the club extended his deal despite the veteran being ruled out with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Liverpool remain hopeful they can come to agreement with Alexander-Arnold. The club are in negotiations with the full-back’s camp and it has been said Liverpool are ‘highly confident’ the homegrown ace will extend his stay and could do so before Christmas.

The 26-year-old was asked about his future last week when on England duty and retains aspiratons of adding to the trophies he has already won. The defender told ITV : “I’ve entered the prime of my career right now and I don’t want to be the player who only won trophies when he was young.”

In September, Alexander-Arnold struck a similar tone and insisted talks with the club would remain private. The former Premier League and Champions League winner made it clear that silverware would be his motivating factor.

“The most important thing is trophies, if I’m honest,” he said. “I want to win trophies. I’m a player who’s highly motivated by trophies and winning things and being elite.

“That’s probably the main factor of anything. If you’ve got a personality that is an elite athlete that wants to win and will do anything to win, then that’s what drives them. I’ve been at the club 20 years now. I’ve signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public and this one won’t be either.”
