Richard Madeley has revealed his wife, Judy Finnigan, gave him a brutal swipe over his appearance, prompting his Good Morning Britain co-star to make a dig about their marriage

Richard Madeley has admitted his wife, Judy Finnigan, made a dig over his looks, prompting a snarky response from his Good Morning Britain co-star.

The former This morning star, 68, fronted the ITV show today while discussing Donald Trump’s recent comment that Prince William looked good with a beard.

Referring to his own beard, which lasted all of 10 days before he shaved it off, Richard reckoned a lady in the street told him he should keep it. A poll on Good Morning Britian’s X account saw 66.3 per cent vote for Richard to get rid of the stubble. So on Tuesday morning, he whipped it all off during an advert break.

However, his wife of 38 years, Judy, didn’t even notice the facial hair, as the Richard bashfully admitted. When Andrew Pierce asked if the mum-of-four had even clocked his new look, Richard replied: “We had lunch out yesterday and a very nice lady came up, she was talking about it and said ‘I voted you should keep it!’. Judy said: ‘What’s she talking about?’. So no, she didn’t notice, never mind.” Not missing a beat, Andrew quipped: “Says a lot about you marriage, Richard!”

While the majority of viewers voted for Richard to lose his beard, some fans were quite taken by the facial hair. Taking to X, one mused: “I am absolutely loving the new beard growing, stick with it Richard, it will look very distinguished.” Meanwhile, another said: “Another added: “Richard’s ‘stubble’ blends in with his make up.” While a third person mused: “The Middle East is on fire but let’s talk about Richard’s beard”.

It’s not the first time Richard has been forced to shave his facial hair on the morning chat show. In November 2018, the presenter revealed how he received a late-night call from the Good Morning Britain boss telling him to have a shave. At the time, Richard said: “The fuzz from yesterday is gone. I was just going to bed last night and the phone went. It was the ‘big man’. I could hear something coming down the line at me.

“He said, “Before I go, the beard… it’s fine on the tablets and the kitchen tellies, but in HD it looks like you’ve got in late and not had time to shave.”‘
