Sky has confirmed that it will be showcasing something new tomorrow that will be “smarter, brighter and better”.

If you love viewing the telly then you might want to watch out for some big news coming soon from Sky. The television provider has confirmed that it is holding a major launch tomorrow, February 11, and it looks set to be a blockbuster event.

In fact, the company is teasing that it will unveil something “Smarter, brighter and better” during its big keynote in central London. So what could it be and how will it change the way you watch the big screen?

Sky is keeping its cards close to its chest and all we know so far is a time and date for the main announcement. Of course, we’ve also had that teaser land in our inbox which says, “Hello from Sky. Be one of the first to see what’s next. Smarter, brighter and better than ever.”

Millions would clearly love it if Sky rebooted its ageing Q boxes – which haven’t had a refresh in years. Although that would be a popular decision, it seems far more likely that the firm’s streaming gadgets are in for some changes instead.

In recent years, Sky has tried to move people away from its old satellite network – which needs a dish fitted by engineers – and move them over to easy-to-install broadband products instead.

Therefore, we could see a new Sky Stream box with better performance, new design and more bonus features. Reading between the lines of the invite, what seems more likely is an upgrade to Sky Glass. For those not in the know, Glass is a broadband-connected telly that offers instant access to live and demand shows, sports and movies.

It even comes with an in-built soundbar, full access to the most popular streaming apps and an easy way to store content via its Playlists function. It’s been a big seller for Sky but its QLED 4K display can’t match the more pixel-packed OLED offerings from the likes of Samsung and LG.

The Sky invite reads, “brighter and better” which could suggest that the latest Glass screen is getting an improved display.

If Sky does release a more premium OLED telly you can expect to see brilliant colours, richer blacks and brighter whites appear on the panel.

OLED displays can also be much thinner, and that could allow Sky to reduce the pretty chunky size of its current Glass telly.

Of course, this is all speculation for now but the big event is now only hours away and Mirror Online will be there to bring you full details – watch this space.
