TV personality Sophie Habboo revealed she was once catfished by a man pretending to be her celebrity crush, Adam Brody.
The Made In Chelsea star, 31, and her close pal Melissa Tattam were discussing the new Netflix series, Nobody Wants This, starring Adam and Kristen Bell. The story follows an agnostic sex podcaster and a newly single rabbi as they fall in love. Fans have been raving about Adam all over social media.
In their podcast, Wednesdays, Sophie and Melissa, talked about how Adam is an example of an American guy they fancy – slyly referring to a previous viral clip of theirs where they admitted they didn’t find American men attractive. “I have goosebumps talking about how much I love Adam Brody,” Sophie said.
After urging listeners to watch the Netflix show, she added: “He’s literally the same character as Seth Cohen, isn’t he?” Seth is a character Adam played in The OC. “Seth Cohen is my number one for sure.” Melissa then said: “That is an example of an American that I like. His personality, his wit, everything about him.”
Sophie went on to open up about her catfish horror story. She revealed: “When I was about 15, there was this older guy. He was an actor and he used to always message me on Facebook chat. I must have done a status about how much I was in love with Adam Brody. He DMs me and is like, ‘I know him from acting. I’ll get him to follow you on Facebook’.”
“Next thing I know ‘Adam Brody’s’ Facebook is adding me,” she said before admitting she genuinely believed it was him at the time. “I think it’s Adam Brody until years later, I’d say until Newly Weds started, and somehow I got on the conversation with Jamie [Laing] and Jamie was like, ‘You f***ing moron. That obviously wasn’t Adam Brody’.” She went until she was 28 years old believing she was friends with Adam Brody on Facebook. Melissa laughed and called the situation ’embarrassing’.
Nobody Wants This charts the couple’s journey through the uncharted waters of their blossoming romance. The series’ creator, Erin Foster, drew from her personal love story with hubby Simon Tikhman, a music bigwig, calling the show a “love letter” to their union. On her podcast, Foster shared insights into her creative process, revealing that she modelled Noah on her spouse to embody someone who’s “emotionally available, chivalrous, old-fashioned … but also really funny and confident”, and importantly, someone with “rizz”, slang for irresistible charm.
