Condensation build-up on windows can cause unsightly mould, which can lead to health problems further down the line. But luckily, one man has found a cheap item which can help remove moisture from the air

When the temperatures drop and we crank up the heating indoors it can cause condensation to form on cold surfaces, like your windows.

Improving the ventilation in your home can help prevent condensation, which happens when warm, moist air clashes with a cold surface, causing water vapour in the air to release and turn into droplets of liquid. But for those that are trying to keep their heating costs down, opening a windows isn’t always possible.

Luckily, one man has found a “life-saving” item which can help remove the moisture from a room, which is especially important because he used to get “horrible mould marks”. Mould is not only unsightly, but if left untreated can cause respiratory issues.

Online content creator Gazza Thompson, from Durham, recently shared the product with his 125k TikTok followers – a condensation and moisture bag. In a recent clip, Gazza showed how his bedroom windows would be covered in condensation every morning – but he has managed to stop it happening with this product.

“The last two years these have been an absolute life-saver, and it’s as simple as hanging it up behind the curtain,” he said. Gazza continued: “Before I started hanging these up in winter I used to get horrible, horrible mould marks above the window, but now since I [started using them], no more.”

The content creator explained that because the extractor fan in his en-suite bathroom isn’t working, it’s causing moisture build-up, which in turn has caused the paint on the wall to crack. However, by using the condensation and moisture bag, it has stopped happening. He also demonstrated that a bag which had been hung up for two weeks had lots of moisture in it.

“If that wasn’t in the bag it would be getting on the walls and the ceiling, and I’d be getting even more cracks in the paint,” he added. “So anyone with condensation and moisture issues in-house, these are an absolute game-changer.”

Moisture absorbing bags can be purchased from Amazon for £13.93 for 12 bags, working out at just £1.16 per bag.

Other ways to stop condensation on windows include opening windows in bedrooms at night, keeping curtains open in bedrooms at night, opening windows in bathrooms when showering and in the kitchen when cooking and while drying clothes indoors. Keeping heating on a constant low temperature can also help, according to Screw Fix.
