Former Strictly Come Dancing star Angela Rippon has shared an adorable snap to her Instagram page as she introduced fans to a tot named Olive, who is the child of her closest friends
Strictly star Angela Rippon has shared a sweet update about the new “addition to my extended family” with fans.
The 79-year-old former contestant and newsreader took to social media to introduce fans to an adorable boy called Olive, who is the child of two of her closest friends. Angela posted an adorable picture to Instagram as she was seen cradling the tot in her lap as he drank milk from a bottle.
She penned: “Meet Olive. The latest and most beautiful addition to my extended family. She has the sunniest smile that lights up the most dismal of days.” Fans were quick to react to the adorable image. One person said: “What a beautiful photograph Angela. Sending love x.” Meanwhile, another person wrote: “Oh, how gorgeous.” A third person added: “What a lovely smile.”
An award-winning journalist, TV presenter, newsreader, and author, Angela started her illustrious career in 1966 at BBC Plymouth. Since then, she has been involved in numerous radio and TV shows, boasting a diverse TV CV that includes everything from Antiques Roadshow to The Wall with Danny Dyer.
In her personal life, Rippon was previously married to engineer Christopher Dare, tying the knot with him at the age of 22. However, the couple called it quits in 1989, and Angela has since remained childless.
However, back in 2012, Angela spoke about being blessed with a godson and two honorary goddaughters, children of her closest friends. In an interview with Noreen Barr of Modern & Mature, she said: “I’ve had young people around me. I was there when they were babies and I’ve seen them grow up so I feel as if I’ve got a kind of surrogate family.”
“So much so that we were talking, a couple of years ago, about growing old. I said, ‘Don’t worry, darlings, when I grow old I shall look after myself.’ And my godchildren who were there said: ‘That’s all right, Auntie Ang, we’ve already decided, we’ll take care of you.'”
Angela took part in the 2023 series of Strictly Come Dancing when she was partnered with professional Kai Widdrington. The couple were eighth to be eliminated after being in the bottom two for the two previous weeks. She also joined Kai on Strictly Live Tour, performing in front of packed-out arenas in nine UK cities.
Opening up about her experience, she said: “The adrenaline rush of walking into 12,000 people clapping and cheering is just extraordinary. It’s the closest thing to being a rock star,”
