Eagle-eyed Strictly Come Dancing fans have discovered iconic contestant Chris McCausland broke into the entertainment back in 2006 after landing a job on a popular children’s show

Chris McCausland may be known for his one-liners and ballroom moves, but the star has been on our screens for longer than you might think.

The 47-year-old comedian and actor, who made history after becoming Strictly Come Dancing’s first-ever blind contestant, has made incredible progress on the dance floor with his pro partner Dianne Buswell. The pair received a commendable 30 points from the judges and a standing ovation from the audience for last week’s Jive to the Wayne’s World Theme – a seven point increase from their week one routine.

Now, the duo will spice things up with a Salsa to Down Under by Men at Work after the show unveiled its brand new theme, Icon Week.

While you may already recognise Chris from his regular stints on shows like Would I Lie To You or his role of Martin in the hit-comedy Not Going Out, fans have only just clocked the celeb’s first foray into acting. From 2006-2007, Chris played the character Rudi in the beloved CBeebies show Me Too!.

Set in the town of Riverseafingal, Chris was well known for his colourful outfits and would sing plenty of cheeky songs, educating children on everything from littering to healthy eating, reports the Express. According to his IMDB page, Chris featured in four episodes across season one and two, before going on to land gigs in EastEnders, Krapopolis, Back Chat, and Moving On.

Taking to Reddit, swathes of Strictly fans started sharing and commenting on the decades old footage of Chris – with one person joking: “It would be hilarious if he redid the routine now.” Another wrote: “He’s a cracking lad,” while a third branded him an “Absolute legend.”

Before breaking into the entertainment business, Chris actually had very different career plans. In an interview with the Guardian last year, Chris was asked if he really applied to become a spy – which he confirmed and stated: “Yes. I got down to the last 30 out of 3,000 for MI5 selection.”

The star was eventually rejected due to his eyesight. “Fair play,” he added. “It’s perfectly acceptable to discriminate for the safety of the nation. The job was identifying and targeting terrorist threats, which obviously you need to do in a limited amount of time… I was like: ‘OK, that’s reasonable. I don’t want that burden around my neck’.”

Strictly Come Dancing airs every Saturday on BBC One.
