Craig Turner-Bullock’s new book features some of the worlds best loved dog breeds such as the Labrador retriever and border collie, as well as some of the rarest like the Dandie Dinmont terrier

These amazing pictures taken of dogs in different countries – on six continents – around the globe are the result of a ten year project by a photographer.

Craig Turner-Bullock’s mission has led to his publishing an amazing book called ‘Dogs of the World.’ The book features some of the worlds best loved dog breeds such as the Labrador retriever and border collie, as well as some of the rarest like the Dandie Dinmont terrier from Scotland or New Zealand’s huntaway.

All were photographed in the places where the breeds originated or have very strong connections to. Craig said: ‘It’s not just about the dogs themselves. The locations are equally important, adding an extra layer of authenticity. This golden retriever photo was taken in Glencoe, Scotland with the impressive snow capped mountains in the background

These dogs belong in these places in their own unique and different ways. He managed to photograph a total of 60 different breeds. After facing publisher rejections and ‘underwhelming offers’, Craig decided to take a leap and crowdfund to cover the printing and production costs to bring his vision to life.

Launching on Kickstarter on 23rd September last year, Dogs of the World reached its funding goal in under a week. Craig’s journey began in 2015 with several dog photoshoots in different countries.

But it was in 2018, after photographing an American pitbull terrier in New York, a French bulldog in Paris, and a corgi in London, that his vision started to really take shape. He then looked at visiting other countries around the world. Dogs of the World features striking ‘Dogoramas’ – panoramic images of the dogs in various iconic places. Though the book focuses on photography, Craig also shares stories about the breeds, locations, and his personal travel experiences. Some of the countries he has visited include Mexico.

Craig grew up on the island of Guernsey with a whole menagerie of pets; gerbils, hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs, fish, birds, cats, a dog, two snakes, two water dragons and even, at one stage, a chameleon! Craig, who now lives in Christchurch, New Zealand, has won many awards for his work. He has been working as a professional pet photographer since 2001.

Craig has won dozens awards for his work in the past few years, and in 2018 was named the New Zealand Portrait Open Photographer of the Year.. This was the first time in the 80 year history of the competition that a portrait award was won by a photographer whose subjects were not human. He said: “Please join me in celebrating the wonderful diversity of our best friends and pay tribute to the bond that unites us: our love for dogs.”
