Super Bowl: Taylor Swift booed by fans as she’s shown on big screen
Taylor Swift was booed by Super Bowl fans as she popped up on the big screen during the game at Ceasars Superdrome in New Orleans.
The Shake It Off songstress is attending the huge sporting event in America to support her NFL star boyfriend Travis Kelce, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs. Travis’ team are facing the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2025 Super Bowl.
Eagles supporters at Caesars Superdome unleashed a torrent of boos upon Taylor Swift when her face flashed on the big screen during Sunday’s clash. Kelce, the Chiefs’ tight end, was gunning for his fourth Super Bowl ring and a third consecutive triumph, this time against Jalen Hurts’ Eagles squad.
Swift has been a hot topic among NFL fans, who’ve been vocal about the attention she’s received from the league and broadcasters since she began dating Kelce before the previous season. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell even responded to these gripes ahead of last year’s Super Bowl in Las Vegas, where Swift watched the Chiefs clinch victory over the 49ers in a nail-biting overtime finish.
When Swift first popped up on the stadium’s screen in the opening quarter, the crowd’s jeers were loud and clear, leaving Swift visibly taken aback as she shot a nervous glance to a friend, Ice Spice, beside her. Taylor then smiled and laughed off the awkward moment.
Last year, when quizzed about whether Swift’s romance with Kelce was a ploy for more NFL viewership, Goodell denied any such orchestration: “I don’t think I’m that good (of) a scripter or anybody on our staff,” he said. “There’s no way that I could have scripted that one”, reports the Mirror US.
Goodell also praised Swift’s entertainment prowess: “She’s a remarkable performer. She knows great entertainment. I had the opportunity to go to two of her concerts with our girls and my wife, she’s the best of the best. So, having her come to NFL games, (to) have her (be a) part of that is nothing but a positive light.”
Goodell said of Taylor Swift’s impact: “Having the Taylor Swift effect is also a positive. Both Travis and Taylor are wonderful young people, they seem very happy. She knows great entertainment and I think that’s why she loves NFL football.”
He lauded Swift’s contribution to the sport’s appeal: “I think it’s great to have her a part of it. Obviously, it creates a buzz, another group of young fans. Particularly young women.”
Goodell praised the star further: “Taylor is obviously a dynamo. Everything she touches… there are people following and so, we count ourselves fortunate and we welcome it.”
