There’s a town where a pint won’t break the bank – and it’s got more to offer than cheap booze.
With the cost of living seeming to creep ever higher, the price of a night out is climbing too. However there is one place in the UK where you can still get a pint for less than £3 – and it’s got a castle too.
Bangor is the oldest city in Wales, dating back to the early 6th century AD. It’s famous for its stunning cathedral and top scoring university but now it has a new claim to fame.
Research by UK Debt Expert has revealed that Bangor is the cheapest place for a pint in the UK, setting you back just £2.63. Out of 10 cities Bangor is the only one with a price under £3.
That’s 123 percent cheaper than buying in London where the average price is now £5.88. But Bangor has more to offer than just cheap booze.
Just a short drive from the city centre is the historic Penrhyn Castle and Garden, which is a National Trust property where visitors can enjoy a day out, before heading back into the city to enjoy a pint in one of the many charming pubs in the area.
The castle has luxurious interiors and a fine art collection, along with some stunning exterior architecture. Set on the Menai Straits, the castle is set to a backdrop of the Eryri (Snowdonia) summits and is surrounded by wooden, open parkland.
There’s also the stunning Garth Pier which stretches nearly half a kilometre into the sea and is one of the most breathtaking surviving Victorian piers in Wales.
This charming seaside spot is lined with kiosks which sell locally made arts and crafts, along with refreshments and snacks.
