TV star and cash saving guru Alice Beer told viewers of This Morning there are some simple and easy shopping hacks you can follow to save £1,500 every single year

One TV star and cash saving expert has revealed some great hacks for people to use to save some extra cash.

Brits can save up to £1,500 with these key tricks, according to consumer expert Alice Beer. In the ‘Save In Seven Days’ section on ITV’s This Morning, Alice revealed some little tricks that save you small sums of money that can build up over time, saving you over £1,000 in the long run.

Alice said: “It is very hard to say to people “you can save money” when people and families are struggling to get to the end of the week and put food on the table in the cost of living crisis.” But she added that there are at least seven ways you can save, sharing some special tips.

Penny a day save

Saving one penny a day isn’t going to save you much over the course of a year, so Alice said increasing how much you save by 1p every day is the best thing to do. Simply save 1p on the first day, 2p on the second day and so on.

By the end of the year, you are putting aside £3.65 a day and you will manage to save a hefty £667.96.

Own-brand products

You don’t need to fork out for a more expensive brand such as Heinze and Coke. Supermarket versions of what is virtually the same product will save you a significant amount. A pringles can is £2.25, but Aldi’s costs £1.49. Over a year, this can amount to a £364 save if you are buying one a week.

More penny savings

After spending every day, look at the remaining pennies left in your bank balance. Say you have £206.53 in your account, simply move the 53p into a savings account. Over the course of the year, Alice says, you can save £100.

Using less

Using less in volume when it comes to your bathroom and kitchen products is very useful. If you can make sure to use less, you will limit the number of times you have to replace the product.

Trying to use half each time can lead to £25 saved over the course of a year.

One less coffee

Coffee shop drinks can set you back £3.50. By having one fewer every week, you can end up with £182 saved.

As well as this, you can save a good amount on your coffee pods. Lidl pods are just 20p per pod, compared to 30p Nespresso pods. Over the course of a year’s worth of coffees at one every day, that’s a save of £36.50.

Share subscriptions

We all need a respite from the world at times and that can come in the form of some great TV. Disney+, Netflix and Amazon Prime subscriptions can mount up over time, so ITV advised: “Look into sharing your membership for sites like Prime, Netflix or Disney with another family who are part of your “household”.

“You don’t have to be in the same physical house – but just the same country. You can create an Amazon Household to share Prime benefits and a Family Library with another adult and up to four children. By splitting the cost of a membership you will save £47.50.”

Fill up your washing machine

This might be the most simple of them all, but filling your washing machine means fewer washes. One fewer load every week could see you save £10.40 over the year, while one less tumble dryer load a week is another £52 saved.

If you follow each of the steps above, you could save £1,521.86 every year.
