Multiple outlets in Greece have reported the shocking news that George , 31, was reportedly found dead in his swimming pool in Greece. Concerns were allegedly raised after Baldock’s wife was unable to contact him after many hours without receiving a response.

Baldock was reportedly discovered in the pool, and emergency services were contacted, with a doctor from the response unit confirming his tragic death. Since the devastating news tributes have flooded in for the talented footballer.

UD Las Palmas’s Oli McBurnie took to Instagram to share a few emotional words with his 105k followers. He wrote: “I genuinely can’t believe you have gone brother, I feel sick. One of the best people I’ve ever met, you were loved by everyone you came across. My heart is broken for your beautiful little family. Sleep well GB i love you mate.”

Dozens of his followers flooded the Sheffield United striker’s comments with support, one wrote: “I’m going to do a run from my house to Bramall lane to raise money for his friends and family. RIP GB2.” Another wrote: “Sad news, was a top lad. Thoughts and prayers with his family.”

In a statement, Sheffield United said: “Sheffield United Football Club is shocked and extremely saddened to learn of the passing of former player, George Baldock. The defender left the club in the summer after seven years at Bramall Lane and was extremely popular with supporters, staff and team-mates who pulled on a red and white shirt alongside him.

“The sincere condolences of everyone associated with Sheffield United are extended to George’s family and friends.”

England said in a statement: “We’re extremely saddened by the passing of George Baldock. George was close to many of our players, and represented Greece – our opponents on Thursday night. We’re thinking of George’s family, friends and team-mates at club and country at this difficult time.”

A statement from the Greek Super League read: “The entire Super League football family expresses its deep sorrow for the untimely loss of Panathinaikos and our national team footballer, George Baldock, and extends its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”
