Chelsea and Southampton will be hoping to turn their Premier League seasons around when they meet on Tuesday with both clubs coming into the clash reeling from two consecutive defeats
Chelsea and Southampton will both be looking to turn their dismal form around when they meet at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
Enzo Maresca’s side haven’t won in the Premier League since beating West Ham United earlier this month. Since that victory they’ve lost back-to-back games against Brighton and Aston Villa, while Fabian Hürzeler’s team also dumped them out of the FA Cup.
The Seagulls condemned the Blues to a 3-0 defeat in the league while Villa came from a goal down to beat Maresca’s team 2-1. While their early season form has dipped dramatically, Chelsea are still well within the hunt for a top four finish with the Stamford Bridge outfit currently in seventh, just a point off Manchester City in fourth, in what’s shaping up to be a crowded battle for the Champions League places.
The Saints meanwhile are still rock bottom of the standings with a near miracle needed to fend off the drop this year. They have now lost eight of their nine games since Ivan Juric replaced Russell Martin in December.
The last time the two met, Chelsea demolished Southampton 5-1 at St Marys. However the Blues are battling something of an injury crisis ahead of the game with the likes of Noni Madueke, Romeo Lavia, Nicolas Jackson, Wesley Fofana Benoit Badiashile and Marc Guiu all expected to miss out.
Ryan Fraser, Adam Lallana and Taylor Harwood-Bellis are doubts for Juric’s side. Mirror Football takes a look at how you can watch the game.
