Monique shared a video of her hair looking dry, before revealing the method she uses to ensure it’s always looking luscious and full of shine – and it’s pretty simple

Those battling with parched locks might need to step up their haircare game with something a tad more inventive.

If your tresses are “dry, brittle, dead and dull”, user @moniquemrapier has divulged her top tip that’s “literally the best thing for your hair” when it seems lacklustre, leaving social media buzzing about her recommendation.

Healthline suggests caution by pointing out: “Dry hair is a sign of hair damage. If left untreated, your hair can become brittle, causing it to break or fray easily. Most cases of dry hair can be effectively treated with simple lifestyle changes.”

Monique flaunted her former ‘dry as a bone’ tendrils in a video – so frazzled that you suspect not even a comb could tackle it. Fast forward one and a half years, she now boasts lush, glossy locks with considerable length.

“Let me show you what you’re missing,” she teases, before sharing the transformative hair-care hack that worked wonders for her.

Monique swears by a method known as “slugging”, which rings familiar to those versed in beauty care routines it’s borrowed from skin slugging.

Odele Beauty casts light on the practice: “Hair slugging is similar to skin slugging – it involves coating your hair in oil and letting it soak in overnight (or for several hours) before rinsing it out.

“A lot of people wrap up their hair in a scarf or sock while it’s soaking to promote better absorption of the oil.”

Pump Haircare elaborates: “Hair slugging is an effective way of making sure your hair gets all the moisture and protection it needs. But the effectiveness of your hair slugging routine comes down to how effective your products are, the amount you use and how long you leave them in for.”

Monique demonstrated her beauty hack by applying oil onto her hands, followed by her hair, focusing on the mid-lengths to ends. She recommends: “Before going to bed, apply a lightweight oil to your ends, then grab a fuzzy sock (yes you read that right) and use it to protect your ends from damage and friction while you sleep.”

Alternatively, women can choose a satin or silk bonnet that guards not just the ends but also the hair on the scalp against breakage and damage.

She explained further: “It will lock in moisture overnight and help hydrate your hair while making it silky smooth”. To ensure the sock would not slip off, she secured it with a scrunchie, claiming it delivers “the best results”, as evidenced by her luscious locks the next day.

In response to her nighttime routine, one commenter quipped: “I tell ya, I just keep getting sexier at night. Mouth guard, socks in my hair, nasal strips and slathered in Vaseline.”
