The Jellycat toilet roll plushie has been popping up on resale sites like Vinted with a hefty price tag – but one woman found an almost identical version of the toy for a fraction of the price

Jellycats have become much more popular in recent years, leading to an increase in their resale prices.

Lisa Angel explained the company “uses the most luxurious, tactile fabrics to create charming plushies with sensory elements, making them ideal for children,” making them super appealing.

They are “collected and treasured by both kids and adults, many of their core range toys are iconic and recognised worldwide.”

Due to their high demand, Jellycats often sell out quickly at major retailers, resulting in a flood of these adorable stuffed animals appearing on resale websites like Vinted. Unfortunately, this often leads to significantly inflated prices, with resellers claiming they’re ‘retired’, implying they won’t be restocked on any official websites making them even more desirable.

TikTok user @kellyleanne3 expressed her frustration over the inflated prices, captioning her video: “Wanted the toilet roll for ages now but I’m not paying scammers on Vinted £80 for him” with some sellers even asking for as much as £99.

She was referring to the cute Jellycat toilet roll plushie, complete with eyes, a smile, and feet that dangle over the edge of whatever surface it’s placed on. It also features a loose piece of ‘toilet paper’ ready to pull, making it an ideal bathroom decoration.

However, the hefty price tag attached to this charming toy may deter potential buyers. If the idea of spending more than double the original price is off-putting, it might be worth considering cheaper alternatives.

Kelly admitted she wasn’t keen on shelling out £80 for the Jellycat only for it to “sit in the dirty bathroom,” given that she planned to pop the loo roll ted to spice up her lavatory decor.

She posted: “So you buy him for £5 instead,” alongside a snap of another stuffed animal, a spitting image of its pricier counterpart sans the Jellycat tag. “Now he sits and watches everyone use the toilet,” she continued, snapping the new plushie perched on a shelf by a succulent.

Scouring through comments, followers enquired how Kelly snagged such a bargain, to which she revealed it was a cost-effective doppelganger from AliExpress. As it stands, this thrifty find is listed at £4.67, though newcomers can nab it for an even more wallet-friendly 79p.

While it’s improbable the knock-off will rival the original Jellycat in softness or squashability, it presents a nifty money-saving option for anyone looking to add some whimsy to their bathroom without breaking the bank.

Feedback on this cheaper treasure impresses with a stellar 4.6/5 rating. One happy customer exclaimed: “This is a brilliant little plush! Looks so cute sat in my bathroom and is a great look-alike to the real things! Would recommend you buy”.

In similar enthusiasm, someone else shared: “Amazing, so pleased with it and just like the real jellycat.”
