Food giant Marmite has resurrected one of its favourite items that hasn’t been seen on supermarket shelves for four years – and fans are bound to be delighted

Love it or hate it: Marmite has resurrected one of its most favourite products.

The savoury spread is perhaps the most controversial food out there – always triggering debate amongst Brits who will never miss an opportunity to share their thoughts on the food. It’s more contentious than pineapple on pizza, but has managed to stick around since 1902 and whip up somewhat of a cult following.

Created with yeast extract, the vegan-friendly spread is made from by-products of beer brewing and is a great source of B vitamins. Some say it goes great on toast, in a sarnie, or straight from the spoon – while others simply can’t stand the tangy taste.

Back in 2020, outrage erupted after Marmite announced it had pulled its Squeezy jar from the shelf. The convenient packaging allowed foodies to squirt their favourite spread straight from the bottle, which made it easy to add into recipes such as pasta and casserole dishes.

Taking to social media, swathes of disgruntled customers begged for the product to return, with one person arguing it is ‘so much better and easier to control’ than the standard jars. “Please bring back the squeezy bottle!” one user pleaded on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Another agreed, commenting: “Miss squeezy Marmite. Bring back squeezy Marmite,” while a third added: “Is there a pressure group I could join to make them bring back Squeezy Marmite?” Luckily, fans’ wishes were answered – and the discontinued products is making its way back into stores as we speak.

“This squeezy jar is the perfect way for Brits to enjoy their favourite brekkie spread without any of the fuss, taking their morning munchies to the next level,” the brand said in a statement sent to the Mirror. “Experience the same delicious umami flavour with just a simple squeeze of the good stuff – and without any of the butter and crumbs getting inside the jar!”

The jar boasts a new and improved ‘thinner, less viscous formula’ and will hit the shelves in Sainsbury’s stores across the UK this week. “Marmite really is making it easy with squeezy!” the brand added.
