The world’s biggest skyscraper, the Mukaab tower, is being built in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which will be 1,300 feet tall and almost as wide while also boasting amazing technology

A massive skyscraper set to be the biggest in the world is being built that could fit 20 Empire State buildings.

Construction has already started on the 1,300 feet tall cube-shaped Mukaab tower and it will be the centrepiece of a seven square mile New Murabba site in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

And the huge structure, which is also 1,200 feet wide, is set to offer luxury residential living along with shops and restaurants. It will also have the latest technology which includes the outer walls of the building showing virtual reality images.

The New Murabba Development Company, which is state funded, has said that groundworks are now 86% complete and it should be ready by 2030. The project is located at the intersection of King Salman and King Khalid roads to the northwest of Riyadh.

A promotional video using virtual reality shows what the futuristic building is expected to look like with people moving around. And in fitting with the science-fiction-like structure, the video also shows dragons, spacecraft flying over head and dramatic scenery including huge mountains and waterfalls.

People inside the building will be able to see holographic projections created by artificial intelligence. There will be a swirling tower for observation decks at the top along with restaurants giving views of Riyadh.

But there has also been criticism of the construction which will see more than 100,000 homes since the project was announced by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for his Saudi Vision 2030. Human rights groups have claimed migrant labour has been exploited while many people living locally have been forced to move.

Project designers say that it will create 334,000 jobs and add around £40 billion to the country’s gross domestic product. New Murabba Development Company released a statement that said the project was inspired by the modern Najdi architectural style.

The company said: “It seeks to be the world’s first immersive destination offering an experience created by digital and virtual technology with the latest holographic. It will be a premium hospitality destination with a multitude of retail, cultural and tourist attractions, along with residential and hotel units, commercial spaces, and recreational facilities.”
