YouTuber and musician Yung Filly, real name Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, is accused of sexual penetration without consent and assaulting a woman at his Perth hotel on September 28
Yung Filly was pictured in handcuffs while being escorted through the airport after his arrest.
The YouTuber, who is the co-host of The Chunkz and Filly Show, was arrested in Brisbane on October 8 and was transported by police to Perth the following day for a hearing. Filly, real name Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, is accused of sexual penetration without consent of a woman in her 20s at his Perth hotel on September 28 after his performance at Bar1 Nightclub in Hillarys on the evening of September 27.
In footage shared online from Wednesday, Filly was seen being escorted by two officials through the airport while in handcuffs. He was transported to Perth to face a hearing. As he exited the airport, he was placed in the back of a car. He looked out of the window before the vehicle drove away.
He has now been charged with four counts of sexual penetration without consent, three counts of assault, and one count of impeding a person’s normal breathing or circulation by applying pressure to their neck. Two days before his arrest, he appeared on stage at Havana Nightclub on the Gold Coast.
He appeared at Perth Magistrates Court Thursday, where his application for bail was adjourned until later in the day. ABC Australia reports that the British entertainment personality is being defended by Perth barrister Seamus Rafferty SC. According to the publication, Rafferty said of Filly’s bail: “This has already made headlines. Given the nature of social media, the nature of people jumping on bandwagons, given the nature of (the) power imbalance between the parties.”
Filly was granted bail under tight conditions set by Magistrate Tanya Watt, which included no contact with the alleged victim and social media silence regarding the case. His bail also requires him to stay in Western Australia while checking in daily with the police as well as post a £50,000 cash surety. Watt also rejected police’s attempt to keep the BBC presenter in jail.
Images of the woman’s injuries were also provided to the magistrate. “No ordinary person can consent in those circumstances,” the prosecutor said of the pictures, adding: “Across her body is a history of violent acts, … we say those photos and what is alleged is beyond the pale, beyond what could be considered to be a consensual act.”
In court, Filly’s lawyer revealed that his client earns $700,000AUD (£360,000) a year from social media alone. Filly has over three million followers on Instagram and nearly two million YouTube subscribers.
