Former One Direction singer Zayn Malik has shared his heartache at needing to cancel a concert hours before going on stage after suffering illness

Zayn Malik has announced he’s been forced to cancel a concert at the last minute. The former One Direction star has been left heartbroken after disappointing thousands of fans by cancelling a concert last minute.

The singer, 32, had to pull the plug on his Mexico City gig on Friday due to ill health. He took to Instagram to share the news, writing on his Stories: “I’m heartbroken to say that I won’t be able to perform tonight in Mexico City.

“I’ve been really sick since this morning and despite trying everything to push through, my body just isn’t allowing it. I’m so sorry to let you down.”

He continued: “The love and energy I always feel from my fans means the world to me, and it hurts deeply to miss this moment with you. Thank you for your understanding, and please know I’m sending all my love to each of you x”

The Mexico City gig was to be the singer’s last date on his Stairway to the Sky Tour. Fans were quick to tell the star they hoped he has a speedy recovery. On Twitter/X, one fan wrote: “Mexican Zquad is not mad, we wish he could reshuffle and we’re worried for him, we love him and we hope he’s okay.”

However, others made note of a recent cancelled. One user wrote: “‘He needs to have a team that takes care of his voice and body, this is the third time this has happened IT CANNOT BE’, said @marxzayn.

In December, the Mirror revealed Zayn cancelled a show in Newcastle, saying his voice “wasn’t working”. Just minutes before he was due on stage in Newcastle, fans were left devastated after a tannoy announcement confirmed he wouldn’t be performing.

A member of staff at Newcastle’s City Hall venue told fans at the time that the show “Will no longer go ahead tonight. We apologise for the late notice, it was his hope that he would be able to continue with the show.

“But this is no longer possible. Please contact your point of purchase for reschedule or refunds. If you have parents or guardians collecting you, please stay in the auditorium and wait to be collected.”

Shortly after, Zayn spoke about the incident. In a video shared with the Mirror, the singer said: “I’m just going to apologise to everybody in Newcastle yesterday.

“I’m sorry I didn’t make the show yesterday, my voice wasn’t working at all. I needed a day to kind of rest, I appreciate everyone showing love and still being here.”

He went on to say he had been hoping that the show would be going ahead and had “held onto hope until the very last moment.”

During a show in Mexico City earlier this week, Zayn was close to tears as he shared a tribute to his former band. It came 10 years after he quit the group. Onlookers described how Zayn was nearly breaking down while singing Night Changes on the 10th anniversary of his departure.
