Cleaning fans say that this technique, which uses a simple household ingredient, works better than bleach for getting your machine pristine as it kills mould ‘at the root’

Fans of Mrs Hinch have revealed a clever hack for keeping your washing machine free of mould and banishing musty smells.

The cleaning fans say that this technique, which uses a simple household ingredient, works better than bleach for getting your machine pristine.

In a post on the Facebook page Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It, one fan described her all-natural and chemical free way of banishing bacteria from her washing machine, as an alternative to bleach.

“While it’s possible to use bleach to kill mould as well, experts agree that vinegar is a much better option,” the Facebook user wrote.

She explained that as well as being cheaper, vinegar was actually a better tool for the job of mould-killing than bleach.

“Unlike bleach, vinegar can effectively kill the mould at the root, which means it’s even less likely to return,” she said.

“Vinegar is also less toxic than bleach, making it a better choice for household use. White [vinegar] is better.”

White vinegar is a fantastic cleaning tool with many uses around the house. You can add it to the drum of the machine or to the detergent drawer to tackle limescale and any build-up of gunk there, the Sun reports.

Add the product and then set your machine on the hottest cycle and run it on an empty load. It is not only your washing machine that can benefit from the addition of white vinegar however.

A popular TikTok video has shared their secret recipe to get rid of the cloudy build-up on shower glass and leave you with a sparking clean shower in just minutes. The video, posted by Connect Trade Cleaning and liked nearly 2000 times, offers the handy cleaning hack. The clip, which lasts 6 seconds, shows a before and after shot of a grimy glass shower door followed by a clip of the same door now gleaming with the recipe for their home-made cleaner using three household ingredients.

The secret recipe is simply one part vinegar, one part hot water and three squirts of dishwashing liquid to return your shower to a brilliant shine.
