Benidorm was hit by heavy rain this week, with one local comparing the weather conditions to Scotland and wearing wellies as she filmed how the holiday hotspot was transformed

Benidorm was transformed this week as torrential rain came down and turned roads into “rivers”.

Footage of the surprise deluge was captured by local YouTuber ‘Benidorm by Ana’ on Wednesday (October 23), who said the Spanish holiday hotspot experienced “almost an entire week of rain” in just a few hours.

Her video showed bar owners scrambling to cover their outdoor furniture and overflowing pipes spilling rainwater onto the streets. Despite the downpour, some “brave” tourists were seen in t-shirts and shorts – perhaps having not even thought to pack a raincoat – while locals like Ana donned wellies and carried umbrellas.

She explained that umbrellas typically cost €5 (£4.16) in local shops, whereas rain coats can be picked up for around €2 (£1.67). Ana went on: “It is not a typical day in Benidorm whatsoever. This might be a typical day in Scotland, in Ireland, in the UK.”

Ana also took viewers down to the beachfront, where she said there were “barely any people at all”, but was stunned to spot some early risers out for a morning run.

Despite the downpours, Ana reassured viewers that temperatures were “not cold at all”. She told potential tourists: “Don’t panic! Even if it is raining you will still have plenty of things to do here in the region. A shopping day, spa and self pampering, inside markets, and why not sports or a lovely walk down any beach area or natural park.”

Benidorm also witnessed substantial rainfall on Tuesday night (October 22), as seen in a TikTok video shared by @benidorm_tiktok_guide.

Filming from the comfort of a sheltered bar, he showcased how the rainwater had formed a “river” flowing down the road. Revellers could still be seen walking past, and he added that “no one seems deterred by it”. And again, he noted that it was still “warm” despite the bad weather.
