Storm Eowyn has been causing chaos across the country, with the Met Office issuing a red warning – indicating there is a threat to life – and plans for horse and greyhound races to take place in Dundalk have now been cancelled

Friday’s races at Dundalk have been scrapped after fears over dangerous winds of 90mph caused by Storm Eowyn.

There were plans for both horse and greyhound races at Dundalk Stadium but the Met Office has now issued a red warning – indicating there is a threat to life – with flying debris possible.

Millions have been urged to stay indoors, with all schools in Northern Ireland advised to shut their doors, meaning the conditions are not safe for racing.

A statement from Dundalk Stadium read: “Due to the red storm warning in place for tomorrow. The horse meeting and greyhound meeting scheduled for tomorrow 24th January 2025 are now cancelled. The Stadium will be closed all day tomorrow. Keep safe.”
