Emma Raducanu took on Amanda Anisimova in the round of 16 at the Miami Open and the American was left in visible pain as she was dominated by the British No.1
Emma Raducanu dominated Amanda Anisimova in their Miami Open round of 16 clash that Sky Sports commentator Annabel Croft declared: “She’s being humiliated”.
Raducanu made light work of her opponent as she claimed victory, with her win built around a stunning first set blitz. Raducanu dazzled on the Butch Buchholz court, swiftly taking the first set 6-1 and dropping just nine points. Indeed, so good was the former US Open winner, that she surged 5-1 ahead in just 15 minutes and didn’t lose a single point on her own service game in the first set.
Play was temporarily halted amid concerns over Anisimova’s fitness. And Sky Sports commentator Croft stated: “She is all over the place. That sigh says it all. Fed up out here. Not enjoying this. She’s being humiliated.”
Anisimova summoned the physio to her side after the set. She had her right wrist attended to, an injury that was already in the spotlight after she required a medical time-out for blisters during her win over Mirra Andreeva on Sunday.
The match saw another pause as Anisimova took a medical time-out while the physio worked to alleviate pain in her right arm.
During the intermission, Croft remarked: “She was manipulating the wrist as well, which is actually quite painful. She’s giving it a good working over, stretching out all those tendons and ligaments. I have to say I think she looked completely all over the place.”
The British No.2 continued to look mightily impressive all told however and duly won the second set 6-3 to take a straight sets victory in just 68 minutes.
“I’ve come a long way in the last week,” said Raducanu. “Since Indian Wells, I wasn’t feeling great about my tennis. But this week, I have some really good people around me who I trust and have some fun with. That’s important for me.
“When I play my best I’m definitely authentic, true to myself and creative. When I’m boxed in to a regimented way, I’m not able to express myself in the same way so I’m happy with how I realised that this week.”
Raducanu will now play the winner of the match between Marta Kostyuk and Jessica Pegula in the last eight.
